Clinical Co-ordinator

Hunter Brain Injury Service (HBIS)

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and contribute to providing meaningful, specialist rehabilitation care to clients who have experienced a traumatic brain injury. The Clinical Co-ordinator has a wide scope of responsibility which requires a high level of clinical skill, knowledge of rehabilitation principles and leadership.

The position will co-ordinate the day-to-day clinical services in an efficient and timely manner while leading the Rehabilitation Assistants and supporting the Service Manager to deliver high-quality care.

Some of the core day-to-day responsibilities will include: 

  • Supporting the Allied Health clinicians with clinical and case management of community and TLU clients.
  • Leadership in the functioning of the Transitional Living Unit (TLU) and the delivery of the community program.
  • Managing the Rehabilitation Assistants including providing supervision and rostering.
  • Initiate and lead quality improvement activities, research and evaluations of the HBIS service. This includes quality-checking data for HBIS that is entered into the statewide Brain Injury database and the clinical medical record.
  • Participation in delivering professional development and educational activities, as well as supervision for Allied health professionals.
  • Chairing of meetings including the intake meeting and TLU case conference meetings.
  • Participation at meetings at John Hunter Hospital and Rankin Park Hospital to identify suitable clients for HBIS and be the contact person for these facilities including Royal Rehab Ryde.

Where you’ll be working:

  • The Hunter Brain Injury Service is 1 of 15 state-wide specialist rehabilitation services for adult clients who have experienced a traumatic brain injury. The teamwork with individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury or an acquired brain injury, with rehabilitation care being provided in the transitional living unit, outpatient clinic or as part of an outreach service.
  • The multidisciplinary team are specialists in the area of brain injury, and act as a resource for the wide HNE regarding care and support. The Allied team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Social Workers, Neuropsychologists, Dietitian and Clinical Psychologists. There is also support provided by Rehabilitation Assistants.
  • The service located in the beautiful Bar Beach in Newcastle, which is within easy walking distance to the beach, shops, cafes and public transport.

Requirements:

Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Relevant qualifications under the Health Professional Award or the Health and Community Employees Psychologists (State) Award, which provides eligibility for membership with relevant professional association or current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Current Working with Children Check Clearance (where applicable).
  • Current eligibility to drive in NSW and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes which may involve driving long distances.
