The Commercial Manager is responsible for providing commercial and contractual support to various projects being delivered by the business. The role reports to the Head of Commercial but also provides advice on commercial matters to the program and supply chain teams as required.

About the role
- Act as the designated commercial and contracts manager, for various engineering and defence projects.
- Lead commercial negotiations for the business with suppliers, customers and partners.
- Manage positive relationships with key customer and supplier commercial interfaces.
- Be responsible for managing contract configuration and ensuring a contract baseline is maintained at all times, as well as leading the preparation, negotiation and execution of variations.
- Prepare all official correspondence and notifications in relation to the engineering and defence projects assigned to them.
- Prepare commercial project reports and contribute to programmatic reports, from a commercial perspective as required.
- Oversee all commercial aspects of program/service delivery activities, in relation to the engineering and defence projects assigned to them.
- Review, assess and document commercial and contracting risks in accordance internal governance processes, to ensure compliance and proactively mitigate commercial risk.
- Contribute to regular reporting for management reviews on commercial matters of the business.
Essential Requirements
- At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in contract management and/or commercial activities for a engineering and/or defence business;
- Demonstrated experience of successfully business partnering with multiple non-commercial functions to deliver complex programs;
- Training and experience in contract negotiation;
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance;
- Experience in preparing the commercial response to tenders, bids and proposals;
- Experience in contract management for major engineering or defence contracts; and
- Ability to travel internationally and interstate, when required.
Desirable:
- Qualified as a lawyer;
- Experience in a high technology business;
- Defence industry experience;
- Sound knowledge of ASDEFCON; and
- Experience managing the commercial aspects of a complex international project.
