The role

The Commercial & Contracts Manager provides leadership, vision, direction and structure to the contracts and commercial functions on projects, to drive effective, efficient and value-add outcomes.

The role will drive the continuous improvement of systems and process within the commercial and contract management function within the Project Development & Planning team. The role will also support the GM Project Development & Planning to provide commercial oversight and support to the various projects. This may include taking the lead on selected commercial activities to support and enhance commercial outcomes on projects.

Responsibilities will include:

• Hands-on leadership of the continuous improvement of Sunwater’s commercial and contract management systems and processes to ensure that commercial practices support and enable optimal project outcomes.
• Provide expert advice to support the development and establishment of commercial and procurement strategies to optimise project outcomes.
• Support Project teams via the provision of advice and recommendations in relation to project performance, risk & contingency management, project variations and project forecasts.
• Effectively interact and influence internal and external stakeholders with your excellent leadership skills.
• Drive change management and the implementation of best practice across project teams.
• Support the establishment of key performance indicators and qualitative and quantitative metrics to capture, report and evaluate the benefit and performance of all activities on the projects.

About you

We are looking for someone with over 10 years’ experience in a commercial role within the infrastructure construction or engineering industry. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

• Tertiary qualification in engineering, quantity surveying, construction management, law, finance or business.
• Extensive experience working with a variety of commercial models.
• Proven knowledge and experience in the development and management of Australian standard and bespoke contracts, including alliance agreements.
• Ability to lead and manage commercial activities as they relate to the delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Proven negotiation expertise, including complex sourcing, contract, supplier negotiations and the ability to resolve contractual disputes.
