The Organisation
SHEPHERD has a proud history of assisting Local Government with specialist asset management, GIS, and civil engineering services, and has established a trusted reputation for delivering innovative, practical, and technically excellent outcomes. The business diversified into civil project management, specialising in disaster recovery and flood restoration projects, in 2016 and now offers a fully integrated service including project and contract management, GIS and systems support, and asset accounting support.
From these strong foundations the business has continued to grow, and today the company remains a leader in road asset management and an emerging leader in disaster recovery systems. They are inspired to make a difference to regional and remote communities by sharing their ability to solve complex issues with practical advice and innovative systems.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager Civil and Disaster Recovery you will provide quality contract management ensuring that contemporary and fit for purpose contract documents are used to facilitate effective project outcomes for SHEPHERD clients while managing risk. Your Engineering oversight will be provided to all areas of Civil and Disaster Recovery projects.
This is a position that you can truly make your own. Creating standards and having policies and procedures that are scalable and that provide a consistent framework for external parties will ensure projects run smoothly and are effectively closed out. Critical to success will be your reputation and genuine passion for building trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
About You
You are either ready to step up from being a 2IC or currently an experienced Contract Manager looking for some work/life balance and a supportive culture to be a part of. Regardless, your experience in Contract Management, Engineering or Project Management in a Council, Construction company or smaller Consultancy, ensures you are detail orientated and process driven, and enjoy setting objectives, planning, and establishing contingencies to ensure projects run to agreed timeframes and budgets. You are renowned for being someone who sets the direction and standards and manages stakeholders and third parties, as well as motivating and empowering those around you. Your experience will include:
- Managing all cost and contractual matters ensuring project costs, revenues, claims, and supplier agreements are administered
- Initiating, reviewing, analysing, planning, and administering the closing of contracts
- Working with all parties to ensure the best possible Commercial outcome is achieved
- Having a demonstrated ability to analyse contractual issues and provide and/or recommend solutions through appropriate problem-solving techniques
Ideally you will be an RPEQ however Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction or Project Management or a related technical discipline are essential. Regardless of where you are working currently you will have experience working with local government.
Why this Role?
This is your chance to ‘own’ the contracts administration function within SHEPHERD and to perhaps step up from being a 2IC in your current organisation. Managing a small team including a Superintendent will see you leading a new era in providing consistency around contract management and a cost-effective way forward. Personal circumstances that allow for travel approximately once a month to get around to each job site will be necessary. You will share the travel commitments with your Superintendent.
This could be the lifestyle change you have been seeking where you can work from home and have a stepping-stone into a larger role. Unlike other organisations, you will also be paid door to door and not simply just when you are ‘on the job.’ Whilst it would be ideal if you live on or near the Sunshine Coast this is not a prerequisite and provided you are located near a major regional or city airport you can live anywhere on the East Coast.
You will arguably earn more than you do currently be supported by a GM who will provide further education and training if required and who is genuinely interested in your overall motivation and attitude and in how he can help you to succeed.
Applications will close on Monday 11th March at 10pm
