Role Overview

Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Planning professional to lead a team of Development Assessment Officers. Reporting to the Manager Planning, this will be a unique opportunity for you to be responsible for coordinating the delivery of development services, including the processing and assessment of development applications.

You will also be relied on to assist as required with legal appeals involving Council's development decisions, as well as to provide high level support to the Manager Planning, and technical advice on complex planning matters to internal and external stakeholders. You will also be preparing and presenting written reports for council as required.

For this position we need a self-driven individual with exceptional leadership qualities. The person with the skill and ability to delegate and allocate work to ensure deadlines are maintained while still delivering exemplary customer service will excel in this role.

What we are looking for

To be considered for this role, you will require:

  • Qualifications (Post Graduate Degree or Degree) in Planning recognised for corporate membership by the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience assessing development applications and providing technical advice on matters related to the role.
  • Extensive knowledge of statutory requirements and best practice relevant to the role and demonstrated experience implementing applying such best practice to the assessment of development applications and investigation into matters of development non-compliance.
  • Demonstrated negotiation experience involving complex planning matters between applicants, State Government and elected representatives.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and motivating a team of highly skilled professionals, including knowledge of contemporary human resource practices.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills to facilitate the preparation of detailed reports on planning related matters.
