Purpose of the role
This newly created position reports to our Data Governance and Quality Manager and will shape our organisation wide approach to Data Governance and data management. This is an opportunity for a data driven professional to manage the Data Risk Management Framework and support the Data Governance Office operations to facilitate improved data quality by bringing Critical Data Elements (CDEs) under governance.
As the Data Governance Specialist, you will drive the implementation of and embed Data Governance practices in the business. You will be championing the importance of data quality, increasing engagement and uplifting organisational data literacy.
What will your key responsibilities include?
- Contribute to and implement the Data and Analytics Strategy and Data Governance Office Roadmap
- Assist the Data Governance and Quality Manager in the formulation of policies, frameworks, procedures, standards, guides and artefacts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to identify and register Critical Data Elements (CDEs), map business lineage and bring them under governance.
- Address ad-hoc or project-based requests related to Data Governance and data quality (e.g. project impact assessments on CDEs, coordinate resolution of data quality issues).
- Define and prepare Data Governance metrics, reports and assessments for formal governance decision-making forums (e.g. Cyber Security and Data Governance Committee)
- Prepare and deliver Data Owner, Data Steward and other stakeholder training materials.
What are we looking for?
You will bring ‘best of breed’ Data Governance practices together with a genuine desire to provide first class service and solve data quality problems that enable effective and efficient business operations of the Bank.
Additionally, you will have:
- Experience in the information management or risk management fields, preferably in the data/data risk management areas.
- Developed and/or supported the implementation of policies, governance frameworks, procedures, standards, guides, and other related documentation.
- Knowledge organisation, such as the ability to apply formal classification techniques to aid with development and assessment of controls, and the disambiguation of business terms.
- Ability to guide development of/manage tools to meet Data Governance Office requirements, e.g., data catalogue, data lineage tools, metadata integration, data quality tools. Integration with other governance tools, e.g. Governance, Regulatory and Compliance, Process Management, Enterprise Architecture.
- Strong decision making and problem solving ability.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build long lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Tertiary or Degree level qualification in relevant field such as Business, Finance or Information Technology.
- Experience with the Critical Data Elements (CDE) concept in a regulated environment is a huge bonus.
