About the position
This position works across both the Primary and Secondary Campuses in a full-time capacity, and reports directly to the Property Manager. This position is directly responsible for assisting with the hiring, managing and supervising Property and Cleaning staff.
The Deputy Property Manager works both indoors and outdoors in both office-based and physical environments using a variety of tools and machinery. This includes being across office management resources such as using specialised software and databases. The role requires frequent active movement and manual handling. Typically, around 70% of the role involves physical labour and 30% office-based administrative tasks.
The key responsibilities of this position are:
- Assist the Property Manager to maintain the College buildings and grounds in a secure, functioning, clean and presentable state.
- Implement all buildings and grounds repairs and maintenance works, both unprogrammed (fault reports) and programmed (PPM schedule), and arrange outside contractors to assist, where necessary.
- Assist with hiring, managing and supervising the Property and Cleaning staff.
Duties will also include the following:
- Attend to grounds maintenance such as planting, watering, mulching, weeding, sweeping, mowing, trimming and pruning.
- Service buildings and grounds maintenance equipment and machinery or to arrange for same.
- Construct minor landscape works including drains, paths, garden walls, edges etc., including carpentry and concrete work.
- Oversee the refuse disposal by the city collection contractor, ensuring that all school refuse containers and equipment are clean and in good repair.
- Keep the stormwater drains clear at all times.
- Perform such other similar duties as may be nominated by the Property Manager from time to time.
- Assist with turf management of all ovals and lawn areas.
- Assist with the management of capital works projects as directed by the Property Manager
- Service buildings and grounds maintenance equipment and machinery then log information onto Mex Maintenance System (Mex).
- Operate machinery/equipment as required for building and grounds works or projects.
- Attend to ordering of materials for building projects, works, maintenance and repairs.
- Install, maintain and service data cables, conduits and fitting for the data network, as in accordance with the telecommunication regulations and licensing.
- Assist the Property Manager in the practical administrations of all construction and maintenance pertaining to the buildings, offices and classrooms.
- Assist the Property Manager in College dealings with contractors where appropriate.
- Be responsible for all Testing and Tagging and associated Asset register, using Mex.
- Liaise with school staff on maintenance issues and practical requirements (fit-outs and furnishing needs) in varying departments.
- Co-ordinate workshop needs and maintenance, including tools and materials.
- Assist in completing College WHS Term Audits.
- Assist Property Manager with security requirements (after hours and alarm system maintenance).
- Act as Property Manager when the Property Manager is away on vacation or absent.
All these tasks should be undertaken within the Health and Safety policies and procedures established for the College, consistent with the Protestant, biblical basis of the College.
Requirements of the position
Requirements of this position include:
- Applicants must be eligible to obtain a Blue Card before commencing employment with the College.
- Applicants must have a practising Christian faith and be actively involved in a church.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with all members of the College community.
- Excellent organisational skills, to manage the volume and complexity of works undertaken across the College.
- Will have previous experience in a similar role leading a team and managing extensive capital works.
- Ideally have experience within a trade and coordination (preferred but not essential).
- Previous experience within a school preferred but not essential.
- Excellent knowledge around WHS and risk management.
- Experience with procurement procedures.
- A proficiency in general administration and use of computer and the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Can do attitude, with a positive engaging mindset.
- Experience managing buildings, property, grounds and maintenance or similar.
