Development Standards Officer

An exciting opportunity exists for a fixed term full time Development Standards Officer in our Planning, Environment and Community Services Directorate based in Moranbah. Reporting to the Manager Community Education and Compliance this position promotes the amenity, environmental value and livability of Isaac Region through investigative processes that maximise compliance with building, planning and environment related legislation. As a member of this multi-disciplinary team, this position ensures an efficient and effective service is provided and that the outcomes, particularly in the area of development compliance are of a high standard, consistent with Council and community expectations.

The successful candidate will have:

1. Knowledge of the Queensland planning, building and environment legislative framework.
2. Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills in a specialist technical environment.
3. Experience (2 – 4years) in undertaking investigations and determining appropriate compliance or enforcement strategies.
4. Experience in all aspects of commercial and domestic Building and plumbing systems.
5. Demonstrated experience leading investigations of complex issues involving multiple stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting planning and building legislation, planning schemes, policies, development conditions and plans of development.
7. Demonstrated experience in delivering quality customer service as a technical expert who can translate complex information into simple concepts to facilitate customer understanding and manage expectations.
8. Tertiary qualifications in Planning, Building, Development Control or related discipline is desirable.
9. Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent (or ability to obtain within 12-months of appointment).

For this position we offer:

• Base salary between $49.67 - $53.01 per hour (Stream A Level 5 - 6)
• Fixed Term Contract – Ceasing Friday 31 January 2025
• Nominally 72.5 hours per fortnight (9-day fortnight – Monday to Friday)
• 5 weeks annual leave @ 17.5% loading
• Up to 13.5% super in accordance with IRC’s Certified Agreement
