Director, Investment Stewardship

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a market leading global investment manager who is renowned for its strong working culture and is widely considered an employer of choice.  They have a large footprint and emerging presence in the Australian market and have recently enjoyed an exciting period of growth and diversification.

This newly created role based in Melbourne forms part of a global Investment Stewardship team and will act as a safeguard to promote long term investment returns on behalf managed equity funds and their investors.  This will be achieved by promoting governance practices that are associated with long-term investment returns at the companies in which the funds invest (Australia & Asia focus).

Specifically this will involve:

• Engaging with portfolio company directors and executives to learn about companies’ corporate governance practices and to share  perspectives on corporate governance practices associated with long-term investment returns.
• Voting proxies at portfolio company shareholder meetings based on each fund’s proxy voting policies and guidelines.
• Promoting corporate governance practices associated with long-term investment returns through published materials and participation in industry events and initiatives.

As the most senior Stewardship appointment for the Australian business, the role requires exceptional executive presence and leadership capabilities, combined with demonstrated ability to operate in a global, fast paced and ambiguous environment whilst managing multiple priorities and diverse responsibilities.

Candidate Experience

• Degree qualified in a business or finance discipline with post graduate qualifications preferred.
• Minimum 10 years' relevant experience spanning institutional investment management, investor relations, governance, policy and ESG.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high levels of comfort engaging with senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
• People leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
