Are you a dynamic and innovative Psychiatrist who is passionate about providing services that are responsive to the unique needs of the Kimberley community?
If so, WA Country Health Service is seeking a Clinical Director for the Kimberley Mental Health Service.
We can provide Fixed-Term Full-Time or Part-Time (0.8 FTE), for up to 5 years, with the potential for extensions.
Alternatively, month on month off job sharing arrangement will be considered via Sessional and Block Style contracts. These agreements provide you with a balanced approach to work and personal life, ensuring your well-being.
Key Responsibilities

  • You'll drive clinical governance and leadership, ensuring adherence to national Mental Health standards and legislative frameworks.
  • Be pivotal in developing culturally appropriate services that embrace interventions such as traditional healing.
  • Play an integral role in the strategic development, coordination, integration, and evaluation of the Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Mental Health management team to align our strategies with the Commonwealth, State, and WACHS Mental Health initiatives.
  • Lead a dynamic team of doctors, providing mentorship, overseeing training, managing administrative functions, conducting workforce planning, and coordinating leave schedules.
  • Depending on your area of psychiatric expertise and service requirements, you will also join the team on the ground and have some clinical responsibilities.

From the Broome Psychiatry Inpatient Unit to the community Mental Health teams in Broome, Halls Creek, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby, and Kununurra, your work will be at the heart of the Kimberley's remote healthcare landscape. It's a dynamic environment where Team Leaders and their teams consistently deliver high-quality care.

Comprehensive Team Support: You won't be navigating this journey alone. Our Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service team is comprised of around 150 dedicated professionals, including Aboriginal Mental Health workers, Aboriginal liaison Officers, nurses, Mental Health workers, doctors, social workers, peer workers, psychologists, and administrators. We are a multidisciplinary workforce collaborating to provide holistic care.
Supervisory Role: Directly overseeing a team of nine, including psychiatrists and registrars, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping their clinical growth and ensuring the highest standards of care delivery.
Diverse Patient Demographics: The Kimberley region is home to approximately 40,000 people, with 49% being Aboriginal people. Our Psychiatry Inpatient Unit, Mabu Liyan, extends its services to both the Kimberley and Pilbara regions, reaching a combined population of 100,000. This diversity promises to enrich clinical experiences and a deeper understanding of diverse cultures.

Qualifications:
  • Registered medical practitioner with specialist AHPRA registration.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
