Job description

Director - Operating Model Design

About Baringa:

We set out to build the world’s most trusted consulting firm – creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.

You’ll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk, or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their organisations tick – slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.

As a Certified B Corporation®, we've proven that we've built social and environmental good into every bit of what we do.

We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world - from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there's a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.

Our Operational Transformation practice is looking for an experienced Consulting Director to join the team in our Melbourne office.

Our Operational Transformation team are partnering with our energy and utility clients to solve their most complex problems. Our energy market is in transition, with the changes being driven by decarbonisation and distributed energy combined with increased digitisation and ever-changing customer expectations. Our approach to help our clients grow and succeed in this environment is to combine our deep expertise in leadership, organisational design, Operating Model definition with service design and technology change We pride ourselves on being a bit more geek than generalist and live by the mantra: Be kind, be curious, be great at work.

What you will be doing
Leading teams to design, develop and deliver business solutions to clients across the energy landscape, with a focus on Energy Retail as they navigate the energy market transition. Design and implement pragmatic Operating Models rooted in a deep understanding of the business, incorporating stakeholder insights, proactive risk mitigation, and scalable, flexible structures to seamlessly bridge theoretical design to practical implementation. Supporting our clients to translate strategic intent into Operating Model capabilities, redesigning their Operating Model so that the organisation is structured to deliver end to end value for the customer. Helping our clients set their vision for transformation, detailing their expected outcomes, and defining their organisational wide problem statements to help set the strategic direction. Designing and delivering complex transformations, aimed at helping our clients become more agile and adaptable, both in the technology-focused areas and in the wider business. Re-engineering customer experiences and improving efficiencies to deliver sustainable and customer-centred outcomes. Working alongside our client leaders to help them embed new cultures and ways of working across their organisations, both among the leadership and their people. Working with senior stakeholders at the forefront of the energy industry alongside market specialists with deep industry knowledge where you will be able to broaden your skill set and expertise. Leaving behind a lasting capability in the client – at Baringa we believe that the client should learn from us so that they can repeat the successes themselves and we take this very seriously.

Your skills and experience
  • You have demonstrable consulting experience leading and delivering Target Operating Model Design and Implementation.
  • You have experience leading and delivering large scale transformations ideally in the Energy, Water, or other regulated industries.
  • You are capable of translating top level decision making into detailed organisation design, including job descriptions, role impacts, consultation preparation and HR support.
  • You have experience in designing and delivering customer strategies that support businesses to respond to changing customer needs.
  • You can lead project teams, working collaboratively across consulting staff and client employees to deliver actionable advice and support implementation of real change.
  • You take ownership and deliver results in challenging, client-facing environments.
  • You have a proven track record in anticipating and identifying future consulting opportunities and demonstrated success in translating insights into actionable plans for long-term client partnerships.
  • You are excellent at building and enhancing team capabilities, driving a culture of continuous learning and development within the consulting team.
  • You are recognized for developing thought leadership that addresses clients' most complex challenges.

What a career at Baringa will give you

Putting People First.
Baringa is a People First company and wellbeing is at the forefront of our culture. We recognise the importance of work-life balance and flexible working and provide our staff amazing benefits. Some of these benefits include:

  • Generous Annual Leave Policy: We recognise everyone needs a well-deserved break. We provide our employees with 5 weeks of annual leave, fully available at the start of each year. In addition to this, we have introduced our 5-Year Recharge benefit which allows all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.
  • Flexible Working: We know that the ‘ideal’ work-life balance will vary from person to person and change at different stages of our working lives. To accommodate this, we have implemented a hybrid working policy and introduced more flexibility around taking unpaid leave.
  • Corporate Responsibility Days: Our world is important to us, so all our employees get 3 every year to help social and environmental causes and increase our impact on the communities that mean the most to us.
  • Wellbeing Fund: We want to encourage all employees to take charge and prioritise their own wellbeing. We’ve introduced our annual People Fund to support this by offering every individual a fund to support and manage their wellbeing through an activity of their choice.
  • Career Progression: No one develops at the same pace. That’s why we have quarterly rather than annual promotion reviews. We don’t have any quotas: if you’re ready and delivering at the right level, you’ll get that promotion.
  • Profit Share Scheme: All employees participate in the Baringa Group Profit Share Scheme so everyone has a stake in the company’s success.
