McNamara Care and Support is a small business and Disability Service Provider that values NDIS participants as individuals. As a team, we approach our work with compassion and empathy, as well as honesty and integrity. Being a small business allows us to dedicate our time towards each individual client, tailoring our work according to their needs.
What makes us unique is our simplest yet highest priority which is for our clients to have fun. Our goal is to ensure that people with disabilities are empowered to have uninhibited experiences throughout their lives. To do this, we ready our Support Assistants to incorporate being a mentor and friend into their role.
UPDATE: Application Deadline is now 1/5/2024
The Role:
Disability support is both exciting and rewarding work!
As a Disability Support Assistant for MCAS, you will be providing a range of support towards our clients. Generally, the role will require you to assist participants with their day-to-day activities and participation within the community. This will involve a range of activities that are consistent with the individual's personal interests – which means you get to support clients through an exciting array of diverse experiences!
Some our clients favourite activities include attending fun events (e.g. gigs, festivals, markets etc.) or simply going for drives, walks, cooking, movies, games etc. There are little to no limitations and there is always room for new ideas! In fact, we love seeing Support Assistants incorporate their own hobbies and interests into their work.
This role will also involve personal care work.
Please note that there is a high potential to work in a variety of locations.
What we can do for you:
We want our clients and staff to have positive experiences in their time together. Disability support is an individualised and relationship-centred role, and we appreciate that sometimes not everyone is the perfect ‘fit’ for each other. This is why we do our best to ensure that you and your client are compatible.
We also provide you with plenty of background information on the client, brief you, provide shadow shifts, and will be there to support you. Along with our management team, each client’s team has a Team Leader who will be able to guide and support you in your work.
Our individualised approach is not limited to our clients. We extend this mentality to our internal culture as a team. We endeavour to ensure our employees feel comfortable and supported, just as our clients. Being a small business makes this very easy for us! We have Team Leader's who will be there to support you and available for a chat and check-in whenever you need. MCAS also has a Wellbeing Coordinator who looks out for all team members, particularly on those tougher days.
And the fun doesn’t stop at client work. At MCAS, we believe a strong culture and bond within the team is crucial. We host work events every two months to allow staff to come together. We’ve enjoyed many different work outings including bowling, pub trivia nights and escape rooms, to give you an opportunity to socialise with your co-workers!
We are also always looking for new ways to help our support team grow! Our Managerial Team, Team Leaders and Wellbeing Coordinator all started out as star Disability Support Assistants, and continue to support participants alongside their new roles.
MCAS has also introduced an Employee Benefits Scheme which starts on the 6th of May and will be in addition to the pay rate displayed.
What we need from you:
Our client’s needs and interests are very important to us, and our prime expectation is that our Support Assistants hold these values too. This requires you to build a relationship with them by getting to know them. While experience and relevant qualifications are appreciated, this is an entry-level role. We mainly require from our employees: interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and well under pressure, patience, compassion, flexibility, a drive to learn and a non-judgmental attitude.
If you do not already possess a Police Check, Working With Children check and/or First Aid certificate, you must be willing to obtain these.
This role will involve travelling to various locations. Driver's license and access to a vehicle with child lock is essential.
