The role Reporting to the Deputy Director-General of Healthcare Purchasing and System Performance Division, you will:
* Be responsible for the allocation of a budget of $18 billion for purchasing health and hospital services and ensuring delivery of agreed health outcomes
* Provide considered and strategic service agreement and funding advice to the Office of the Minister for Health, focusing on an all-encompassing range of in-depth understanding and clinical evidence of current and future health care needs
* Lead strategic purchasing negotiations and decision making to achieve whole-of-system outcomes and delivery of key Queensland Health priorities including First Nations and rural, regional and remote health service provision, and agreed performance targets to facilitate superior delivery of health care services across the State
* Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Contracting and Performance Management Branch, which includes the management of over 30 FTE, including the Surgery Connect Program
* Lead the continuous improvement of the state health system through strategic purchasing, based on clinical evidence and future needs
The successful personYou will have:
* Expert budget and contract management capability with critical knowledge and expertise of the public health system and the complex interrelations across agencies, service providers, funding and legislation
* Astute, strategic analysis skills, with ability to critically assess complex evidence, provide high level advice and make robust business decisions
* Extensive senior leadership and organisational experience in a complex service delivery environment
* A proven record and experience of successfully negotiating and managing complex, high-level contracts in a dynamic and challenging health environment
* A commitment to improving healthcare outcomes through collaboration, negotiation and implementation of reform
About usHealthcare Purchasing and System Performance Division is responsible for purchasing public health and social services from service providers and managing the performance associated with those purchasing decisions to optimise health gains, reduce inequalities and maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the health system.
Working with other key areas within the department, the division ensures health funding is used effectively to meet government priorities and deliver public health services to improve health outcomes for the population of Queensland.
