The Opportunity
We have multiple opportunities for 3 GIS Analyst- Fruit Fly Emergency Response to be part of our Corporate Services Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality geospatial outputs and solutions for the ongoing PIRSA Biosecurity Fruit Fly Emergency Response in South Australia. GIS Analyst operates within a multi-disciplinary environment and works closely with the Biosecurity Fruit Fly Team to provide geospatial outputs from established routine workflows and identify and define requirements and solutions to new geospatial requests. The role works as an integral part of the team utilizing advanced skills in geospatial data design, capture, maintenance, modelling, analytics and presentation. The role scopes requirements and selects and applies methodologies to develop fit for purpose solutions. The GIS Analyst also provides technical advice to Biosecurity Fruit Fly team members and ongoing improvement of GIS workflows and processes.
The GIS Analyst has a thorough understanding of the principles of Geographic Information Systems theory and practice, with considerable hands-on experience and possesses the ability to develop an understanding of the client’s business to facilitate the delivery of effective solutions and services.
The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities including:

  • Securing production through biosecurity and efficient and sustainable use of resources.
  • Managing adverse events effectively and helping primary industries and communities improve preparedness, resilience and recover well.
The role contributes to agency objectives through the application of geospatial technologies to enable timely, rigorous and defensible decision making for the PIRSA Biosecurity Fruit Fly Emergency Response and its stakeholders.

Special Conditions
  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • This is a 6-month position with the opportunity for extension.
  • Multiple positions available.
Requirements
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.

  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

  • Participating in PIRSA’s Performance Management and Development Program.
