The MidCoast is a large and diverse region on the mid/North Coast of NSW which comprises of 195 towns, villages and localities, stretched along their vast and stunning coastline (192km). The area ranges from beaches to mountains over an area of 10,000 km2 and is home to around 94,000 residents. The main population centres include: Taree, Forster-Tuncurry, Tea Gardens-Hawks Nest, Gloucester, Hallidays Point, Harrington and Old Bar.
The Division
This position sits within the ‘Projects and Engineering’ team, at Mid Coast Council within their ‘Infrastructure & Engineering’ division which comprises of 415 staff, responsible for managing around $4.5Bn worth of depreciating assets. The division is accountable for almost 60% of Council’s total expenditure.
The Program
With a growing capital works budget, which contains $60M in Transport projects, together with the recent grant projects announced coupled with a project in progress from last year, the total program of works will be actually around $90M. This includes some sizeable projects, such as a $25M Bridge replacement (Cedar Party Creek) and $25M Corridor Upgrade (Bucketts Way Stage 2).
The Opportunity
As the ‘Head of Project Delivery – Transport’, you will manage Council’s Capital Works Program for Transport., ensuring that it is being delivered effectively and efficiently to agreed timelines and budgets. This position reports into the ‘Manager Projects & Engineering’.
You will lead, supervise and mentor a diverse team of around 20 staff from graduates up to experienced Senior Project Managers. Key deliverables include developing your staff, setting up key performance measures, improving processes and partnering with other teams (such as design, operations and asset management) to remove silos, improve collaboration and knowledge sharing.

To be considered, you will meet the below criteria:
- Degree level qualifications in Civil Engineering or similar. Project Management qualifications are also highly regarded.
- Experience coordinating and/or delivering transport infrastructure projects (primarily roads and bridges).
- Experience leading, developing and/or mentoring staff.
- Experience managing a large portfolio of engineering projects.
- A valid Class C Drivers Licence.
- Knowledge of the professional and legislative requirements within the scope of the role, including current engineering standards, Local Government Act, Roads Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Environmental legislation and related Regulation and Codes.
