Job description

  • The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for developing an overarching Community Engagement strategy for Headspace Gosford, Wyong and Lake Haven that incorporates: Community awareness and engagement strategies; Relationships with local schools and School-Link; Integration with the Children and Young People’s Mental Health (CYPMH); Interagency relationships and Strategic events and forums in order to enable young people aged 12-25 years to gain early access to mental health support.
  • The CE Officer has a pivotal role in ensuring that Headspace is accessible to young people and their families, is well known in the local community, is well linked to the relevant sectors and are well integrated with CYPMH.  
  • The role provides management and operational oversight to the Headspace Youth Reference Group, and ensures there is a clear plan on how the Group operates and is supported within the service.  
  • This role will rotate across the Headspace Gosford, Wyong and Lake Haven sites.

      About You

      • Minimum Tertiary Bachelor Degree in Community Welfare, Counselling, Social Work (where degree provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work), Occupational Therapy (plus general registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia) (Health Professional L1-L2), or other qualifications deemed relevant by the employer; or Tertiary Degree Psychology (4 year degree with 4th year Honours in Psychology) plus either provisional or full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA/Psychology Board of Australia (Psychologist Yr 1-Yr 9); or Tertiary Degree in Nursing plus Division 1 Registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (RN Y1-8). In addition Welfare Officers, Counsellors, Social Workers, Sexual Assault Workers and Occupational Therapists are required to have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Community Welfare/Counselling/Social Work/Occupational Therapy in order to be classified as a Level 2.
      • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events and activities and the ability to understand and utilise youth friendly practice and advocate for young people.
      • Exceptional ability to engage and communicate to groups of people. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in writing media releases, promotional material and expertise in social media.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage volunteer teams.
      • High level of organisational skills, with a proven ability to prioritise work, multi-task, meet deadlines and respond to requests at short notice.
      • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate community awareness programs.
      • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, internet, email and publishing software) and current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel to other locations within the District
      • Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.

        Where You'll Be Working

        The position of Headspace Gosford, Wyong and Lake HavenCommunity Engagement and Strategic Partnerships Officer is based at our Gateway Centre in Gosford. The role will rotate between the Gosford, Lake Haven and Wyong sites.
