Health and Safety Officer

Due to the strong growth of Power Electronics Australia, this exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, efficient, and motivated person to join our well-respected, industry leading company.
This new position is a full-time role based at our Head Office in Hemmant QLD.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will implement and manage safety procedures and systems at project sites and the warehouse/test/repair area.
Your duties will include:
- Implementation, communication, and management of Safety Management Systems across all project sites and warehouse/test/repair area.
- Liaising with Project Management teams and Subcontractors, including SWMS reviews, safety management plan creation for specific projects, toolbox meetings and induction.
- Assisting the team in the safe delivery of on-site activities.
- Providing expertise to the business for all work Health and Safety matters including continual updating of safety policies and procedures, in line with current/new legislation.
- Completing safety audits, including some interstate travel to audit project sites as required,
- Coordinating OH&S training.
- Lead CFT (Cross-functional team) meetings to monitor and ensure the implementation of initiatives and actions aimed at improving Health and Safety.
- Incident reporting and investigation and closeouts.
- Ensure WHS Committee meetings are held, and drive initiatives and actions from the meetings.
- Complete risk assessments for all plant and equipment
- Ensure risk assessments & Standard Operating Procedures are regularly reviewed for safety compliance.
- Create and maintain records relating to safety training, checks, toolbox talks and meetings.
- Liaise with the Safety team at Head Office Spain and ensure implementation of group safety policies and procedures.
The successful applicant must have the following attributes:
- Qualifications and experience in Work Health and Safety.
- 2 years minimum in a similar HSE Safety role within the construction/contractor industry
- Robust knowledge of HSE legislation, regulations, codes of practice and safe systems of work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coordinate with the Site Supervisors and Project Management team to ensure all safety requirements are implemented.
- Able to support and coach a team of skilled trades and subcontractors in a range of HSE matters.
- Computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office
- First aid qualification, (or ability to obtain)
Beneficial but not essential
- Electrical qualifications or experience
- Experience in a safety role within the Construction and/or Electricity Industries
- Exposure to Electrical projects
- Knowledge in OSHAS 18001 / ISO 45001
