Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HSEQ Manager to oversee and manage the Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) programs of our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, identifying and mitigating risks, improving and expanding our quality frameworks, and promoting a culture of safety and quality throughout the organisation.
The role actively engages and supports the Executive and Leadership group, acting as a trusted HSEQ focal point and enabling compliance with all statutory obligations and quality standards. The HSEQ Manager will work across all levels of Griffin Marine Services to champion continuous improvement and safe work systems, and driving ongoing enhancements in safety, environmental, and quality performance.

About Griffin Marine:
Built upon a trades base and management experience of over a combined 60 years, Griffin was founded by industry veterans Troy Ranford and Martyn Stroud in 2014. By focusing on quality and responsiveness they built the business with their team across the country to be a leader in the provision of specialist engineering services in the marine sector with a focus on defence.
We now employee over 125 personnel around the country with workshops and offices in Henderson, Sydney, Cairns, and Darwin.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSEQ policies, procedures, and programs across the organisation
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including WHS, ISO, and other industry-specific requirements
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on HSEQ policies, procedures, and best practices
- Investigate incidents and accidents, and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to promote a culture of safety and quality throughout the organisation
- Provide Legislative and Regulation advice to Senior Management on all matters relating to HSEQ to ensure compliance.
- Manage Integrated Management Systems including all Processes, Procedures, Risk Assessments, etc
- Manage the review of the company IMS system through Management Review Meetings
- Be responsible for maintaining all HSEQ accreditations including monitoring and reporting activities in accordance with the relevant standards
- Facilitate and manage external audits to gain and maintain quality certifications
- Produce and deliver staff inductions, training and briefings identified as required by planned works, current best practice, and changes in legislation
- Ensure effective monitoring of communication and consultation processes throughout all levels of the company
- Monitor and report on HSEQ performance metrics, and develop strategies to improve performance over time
- Monitor non-conformances and seek system and process improvements
- Implement and maintain safe work procedures in compliance with company WHS policy and procedures
- Review Subcontractor HSE documentation
Mandatory Qualifications and Attributes:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or Equivalent
- Internal Auditor qualification
- Incident Lead Investigator (ICAM Desirable)
- Construction Induction (White Card) certificate required
- Effective communicator with strong presentation and report writing skills
- Analytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulations
- High standard of written English
- Ability to work to and meet tight deadlines
- Good communication skills, including professional telephone manner
- Ability to liaise with staff and operatives at all levels
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office package
- Ability to work as a member of a team, but also capable of working alone
- High quality standards, e.g., attention to detail
- Ability to lead by/set a good example

- GMS Safety Induction required
Desirable Qualifications and Attributes:
- Knowledge of welding standards and codes and relevant Australian Standards (AS) and international codes (e.g., AWS) related to welding safety and quality would be beneficial
- Provide advice and training to Managers and staff to foster a culture of continuous learning, employee engagement, and overall organisational excellence to align with company HSEQ goals and objectives
