Job description


• Provide legal advice and recommendations to Judicial Officers on legal issues concerning persons with Funds in Court.
• Responsible for preparing memorandum, Court orders, correspondence and written advice on legal issues concerning persons with Funds in Court.
• Use legal expertise to check and authenticate orders made in respect of funds held in Court. Attend to the proper recording of each order, and any supporting documentation, in the Senior Master’s Trust Management System.
• Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders and relevant agencies.
• Verify compliance with, and authorise payments into and out of Court, in accordance with relevant orders and/or legislation.
• Support and assist with investigation of potential delays in payment into Court matters.
• Other duties as directed by the Legal Services Manager.

About the role
The Junior Legal Officer is a Deputy Prothonotary and is primarily responsible for the checking and authentication of orders made by the Associate Judge who is the Senior Master, and the Judicial Registrar assigned to Funds in Court, in relation to funds held in Court.
The Junior Legal Officer will also provide legal advice to the Senior Master and Judicial Registrar regarding funds held in Court and applications made in respect of funds held in Court for persons under disability.
The Junior Legal Officer assists the Solicitor to the Senior Master in the discharge of their duty and reports to the Legal Services Manager.
About you
A law degree or substantial progress towards that degree would be highly regarded
An interest in the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Victoria including an ability to understand the Supreme Court (General Civil Procedure) Rules.
Experience in the Disability Sector will be highly regarded.
