As the Learning Facilitator, you will report to the Program Director for Health Sciences, and join a passionate team committed to ensuring Torrens University Australia delivers an exceptional student learning experience.
A little about the role …….
This position is part of the Health Science team, and an opportunity exists to teach in some of the specialised subjects that are common within the health faculty. Depending on the incumbent’s expertise these subjects may include; clinical assessment, professional communication & collaboration, critical literature review, evidence-based practise, entrepreneurship, professionalism & business skills in health and a range of Biomedical subjects within the Health Sciences department. In this role and within these subjects you will be teaching into a broad range of programs that include Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Community Services, Bachelor of Counselling, Bachelor of Nutrition, Bachelor of Psychological Sciences and our clinical Health Science programs such as Chinese Medicine, Naturopathy, Aesthetics & Clinical Nutrition. The focus is bringing these subjects to life for all students in the context of the health professional using your industry, practical and academic experience.
Learning Facilitators may also be delegated special projects or duties related to the management of subjects or programs, academic quality, subject development, orresearch.
In this role, you will:
Deliver lectures, seminars, forums, workshops/practical sessions and tutorials, both online and on campus using innovative learning and teaching practices
Coordinate a range of subjects, driving quality initiatives and course review strategy
Mentoring and support to casual academic staff
Prepare, review and update teaching materials as identified by the Program Director or in response to quality measures
Draft, review and update assessment tools, set and mark assessments and examination papers where needed
Conduct student assessment and ensure academic processes are adhered to
Assess student submissions throughout the study period providing good quality feedback in keeping with policy
Determine the final result for each student and submit the results to the Program Director in the required format by the results deadline in preparation for the exam committee
Participate in validation and moderation activities as requested by the Program Director
Identify students who are at risk of failing a subject, whether for personal or academic reasons, and make the appropriate referral to Program Director, Success Coach, Language/Academic Skills support staff
This is a permanent full-time job based in Brisbane Bowen Terrace Campus
Who you are:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
PhD or equivalent in an area related to clinical care, communication, evidence-based practise, translational Biomedical research – desired
Evidence of progress towards PhD with a completed Postgraduate qualification in an area related to clinical care, communication, evidence-based practise, translational Biomedical research will be conisdered
Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching or equivalent is preferable
Demonstrated experience in student-centred higher education teaching and the ability to work within a professional and motivated academic team – delivering face to face and online
Subject coordination experience preferred
Experience working in the health sector or in educating health students
Understanding of pedagogical and/or adult learning principles relevant to the student cohort being taught
Sound understanding of current scholarship and/or professional practice in the discipline that is being taught.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute to the academic and administrative environment of the faculty
Awareness and understanding of the relevant TEQSA standards, National Code 2007 & ESOS; and display
