Bennett & Philp Lawyers is a well-known mid-sized Commercial Firm located in the Brisbane CBD. With over thirty fee earners across the firm and an established Litigation and IP Litigation team, we are looking for a Secretary with demonstrated experience in Disputes and Litigation to join the team. Ideally you will have experience in Commercial Litigation or another area of litigation (e.g. Family Law or Criminal).
You will be working for highly respected and regarded Directors and Senior Lawyers in the areas of (but not limited to) building and construction disputes, leasing and property disputes, contract disputes and enforcements, payment and lending disputes and defamation. Your workload will have a focus on these areas and your day will be varied an interesting. Experience in these areas is not essential but will be highly regarded.
This role is full-time however it may also suit someone requiring flexibility to work reduced hours over 5 days per week.

The Disputes and Litigation team comprises five Directors, two Special Counsels, two Senior Associates, a Lawyer, a Law Graduate and other support staff and paralegals. The firm has a focus on teamwork, and you will be required to assist other fee earners or teams during busy periods or while other support staff are on leave.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- shared reception opening (1 to 1.5 hours per day from 8am) and reception relief duties
- file opening, closing files and archiving
- file management (electronic and a small number of physical files)
- diary management
- compiling briefs (electronic and/or paper)
- preparing documents from precedents
- preparing monthly invoicing
- authors use voice recognition dictation or touch-type, there will still be typing and error correction
- liaising with clients and other parties
The successful applicant will be confident, resilient, organised, and energetic and in addition, you will:
- Have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with team members and clients
- High level of typing and documentation accuracy and quick typing speed
- Have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Have strong time management and organisation skills
- Have interests in and pursue goals outside of work
