The LGBTQI+ strategy aims to improve the mechanisms, systems and processes for supporting the LGBTQI+ populations in WSLHD. The particular focus is on marginalised population to access appropriate health care.
The Project Officer's primary responsibility is the coordination and implementation of activities in consultation with relevant staff and services to enahnce access for LGBTQI+ population to approiate health services. The Project Officer will work with relevant services within the LHD to deliver the best care to LGBTIQ+ people and work with them to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.
The LGBTQI+ Officer, will be working with a wide range of stakeholders and be responsible for Implementing and supporting key initiatives identified by the NSW LGBTQI+ Health Strategy 2022-2027
The strategy provides direction to all NSW Health organisations and staff, so that collectively we can deliver the best care to LGBTIQ+ people and work with them to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. The evidence is clear that LGBTQI+ people experience poorer health outcomes, overall, than the general population. This is driven by the health issues and barriers to healthcare that disproportionately impact the health and wellbeing of the LGBTIQ+ population. This also includes the health, wellbeing and safety of our health staff who are LGBTIQ+. The Project Officer position would assist in driving and developing the implementation for this strategy across WSLHD.
The LGBTIQ+ Project Officer will assist the district to implement the recommendations of the Strategy. In the initial stages this would focus on our priority population services within the district (Aboriginal health, Youth health, Multicultural health, Integrated Violence Prevention and Response Service and Out Of home Care). These services already deal with a significant LGBTIQ+ population and as such would make a great starting point for the implementation of the Strategy.
By commencing in the Priority Population Services, we would be able to develop process and frameworks for the implementation that could be easily transposed to the wider health services within the District, as well as developing a knowledge base and community of interest to drive this implementation into the future
People with disabilities who meet the selection criteria are encouraged to apply; and where required, WSLHD will implement reasonable adjustment consistent with industry standard.
