St Patrick’s College, Strathfield is a Catholic school for boys in the Edmund Rice tradition offering a quality education to over 1,550 boys from Years 5 to 12. Permanent full-time position commencing Monday 29 April 2024 (Term 2)

(Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm during the school term)

The libraries at St Patrick’s College, Strathfield, are central to enriching and supporting the teaching and learning programs of the College. Our aim is to cultivate a life-long love of literature whilst developing students who are information literate and critical thinkers. We are proactive in developing information skills by integrating our programs with classroom learning activities. The primary responsibilities of the Library Assistant are the provisions of library services, including administration and day to day operations in consultation with the College Teacher Librarians.

Key responsibilities

Support the delivery of library services.

  • Perform day to day operations of the library, including collection management, administration, circulation desk duties, shelving and library supervision duties.
  • Assist in the selection and acquisition of resources in consultation with the teacher librarian.
  • Assist with magazine subscriptions and renewals in consultation with the teacher librarian.
  • Assist online educational video platforms such as ClickView.
  • Implement and contribute to library policies, procedures and processes.
  • Promote and inspire a habit of lifelong reading through the creation and maintenance of an engaging library space – book displays.
  • Support programs, events and activities in consultation with the library team / teacher librarian.

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate you satisfy all the following essential selection criteria:

Essential criteria

  • A diploma in Library and Information Services.
  • Demonstrated experience in Library Operations, Library Management Systems and circulation desk to deliver excellence in customer service.
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy including Word, Excel and Outlook and the effective use of online platforms
  • Excellent planning, organisation, coordination and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to exercise substantial independent judgement and initiative.

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrated experience using library management systems, especially Accessit.
  • Experience with emerging technologies to extend library activities.
