About This Opportunity
We are seeking a highly effective Management Accountant to deliver timely, accurate and efficient professional financial planning and management accounting services at Newton College.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Management Accountant provides sound financial reporting and analysis expertise to manage the College’s financial performance and support senior decision-making, and ultimately contribute to the College’s continuous growth as a meaningful educational provider.
Main Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Be responsible for the development and monitoring of the College’s budgets and forecasts, and continuous improvement initiatives, to business partnership with the leadership teams to achieve financial objectives.
- Be responsible for financial advice, performance and feasibility analysis, business modelling, product costing, and systems development, to reflect the College’s operational and strategic direction.
- Be responsible for regular reviews, development, and maintenance of financial management reporting standards and requirements of the College.
- Providing advice, support and end user training to the College staff involved in monitoring financial performance and budget and forecasting processes.
- Supervising the College’s financial system and functions to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
- Leading the design, review, enhancement, development and maintenance of the College’s financial management systems, financial management processes, procedures, policies and internal controls.
- Providing guidance and advice on areas for improvement by preparing management reporting for use by the operational leaders. Securing the company's financial health by overseeing transaction processing, budgets, reporting, analysis, forecasts, and risk control.
Major Accountabilities
- Assist in ensuring policy, procedure and work practices are developed, implemented, and reviewed compliance with relevant legislative and education export industry standards and maintain records accurately for data integrity within systems.
- Support the annual budget with financial forecasting processes, working closely with all areas of the business to support the planned operations and medium to long-term strategic directions and decisions.
- Preparation of monthly management reports at the business unit/service level, including the tracking of financial performance against budget/forecast.
- Quarterly reporting requirements, ensuring legislative compliance with and appropriate governance.
- Provide high quality financial management and accounting advisory support and analysis to the leaders in the preparation of financial and budget variance reports, analyze on business opportunities, funded program evaluation (grants), variations and financial performance data, set costing control models, analyze cost and benefit, and identify financial issues and emerging risks.
- Collaborate with the team and functional managers within the business to identify, plan and implement process improvements to achieve efficient and sustainable financial outcomes for the organisation.
- Apply relevant analytical tools and techniques to effectively analyse and interpret a wide range of organizational internal and relevant external data sources to support decision-making.
Specific Requirements
- Applicants must have a minimum of three years of experience in a similar role
- A Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related degree
- Current knowledge of accounting and financial principles
- CA, CPA, or IPA qualified or nearing completion is highly desirable
- Strong analytical skills and accuracy to interpret financial performance and recommend improvements.
- High level proficiency with excel, power BI or similar
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
