About This Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organised Management Accountant to deliver exceptional professional accounting services at the University of Queensland.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Management Accountant takes ownership of financial reporting and analysis as it relates to capital management at the University. The role is responsible for consolidating the financial reporting of capital projects across the organisation for reporting to the Capital Management Group (CMG) and Finance Committee. In doing so, the role will provide sound financial analysis and supporting commentary to inform Senior Leaders at these decision-making forums.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides clear and insightful financial analysis and commentary to meet the financial management needs of the CMG and Finance Committee.
Coordinates capital budgeting and forecasting activities, including working with project stakeholders to understand changes to program/spend forecasts and providing challenge as appropriate. Highlights risks and opportunities to financial targets.

Supports the Finance Manager with the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reporting and insights provided to Senior Management for strategic decision-making.
Lead and coordinate ITS and Property & Facilities finance professionals to provide project accounting advice and services to key project leaders, including financial planning, analysis, commentary, and reporting.
Owns the distribution of funding to capital projects, as approved by CMG and Senate.
Ensures the appropriate application of the University’s financial and governance policies as they relate to capital management.
Partners effectively with project leads and the Project Governance Office to act as a trusted expert financial advisor and fosters a valued partnership.
Acts as an integrator between capital management processes and operational budgets by working closely with finance advisory teams across the University.
For major strategic projects:
Leads budgetary control activities, including expenditure and variation analysis, and provides advice to clients on control mechanisms that drive fiscal accountability, transparency, and financial performance for the client portfolio.
Supports Project Leads by sense checking financial information (e.g. business cases) submitted to CMG. Providing sign-off that requested funds are in line with cost estimates. Highlights risks and opportunities and pressure tests assumptions.
Ensures all operational accounting processes are carried out accurately and efficiently, through the review, processing and correction of financial transactions managed through the professional services team.
Manages escalation of key client issues or needs requiring expertise, input and approval of the Management Accountant.
This is a Full-time,100% FTE, Continuing (Parament) position. At HEW Level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $94,754.55 - $103,180.96 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $110,862.82 – $120,721.72 per annum.
About You
Degree qualifications in accounting, business, commerce or a related field, or progress towards, with related field experience in accounting and/or equivalent combination of relevant training and professional experience. Project accounting experience desirable, but not required.
Excellent financial management, accounting, and analysis skills, with experience applying financial policy, compliance, and risk frameworks.
Ability to provide aligned financial advice and solutions and partners with clients to achieve desired outcomes.
Proactive communicator and able to connect people across the organisation to solve complex financial problems.
Experience working in professional financial advisory and/or service delivery functions in complex stakeholder and policy environments is desired.
Progress towards or membership of a professional institution (CPA/CA or equivalent).
