Job description
We are looking for an experienced professional with great business acumen who will lead the Local Government Management Solutions (LGMS) business unit that provides a suite of professional and commercially viable fee-for-service offerings to members/clients.
The position plays a key role in developing and implementing strategies and programs relating to the functions of the LGMS business unit which promote best practice, retention of LGNSW membership, provide leadership and support to members in a customer focused way, whilst also maximising commercial opportunities where appropriate.
About LGNSW
Local Government NSW (LGNSW) is the peak body for councils and related organisations in our State. LGNSW advocates on behalf of members and their communities on policy to decision makers at state and federal levels. We also provide a comprehensive range of services including industrial relations representation, management services and training.
About the role
Reporting to the Director Workforce & Legal, the successful candidate will manage strategies to grow and improve revenue streams of the LGMS business unit. Key aspects of the role will involve:
Developing the business plan for LGMS including the annual operating budget.
Tracking and monitoring revenue and expenditure to achieve budget and operate as a self-funded and profitable business unit.
Advise, guide, and facilitate the recruitment and performance review of executive level employees, including preparing supporting documentation.
Oversee LGMS benchmarking and workplace analytics services, including ensuring that data collection, collation, analysis, and reporting is undertaken in a timely and customer-focused manner.
Oversee LGMS remote skills contractor service, including ensuring legislative compliance, profitability, and maintenance of a pool of suitably skilled and experienced consultants.
Undertake regular travel to councils located throughout NSW.

About you
You will have an influential, firm, yet supportive personality and be organised with the ability to adapt your workload to manage competing priorities. You will have experience supervising and leading staff to ensure work performance and work conduct standards are met. Your strengths will be your ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including mayors, councillors, general managers, executive level employees, and other human resource professionals.
Essential Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in human resources, law and/or business, with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience relevant to the role (Generalist/OD roles).
Proven experience in executive level recruitment.
Knowledge of and experience in performance management systems and procedures.
Ability and experience in organisational structure reviews including development of accompanying reports with recommendations and options.
Demonstrated marketing and strategic planning skills.
Demonstrated experience and successful track record of setting and achieving budgets, financial management and reporting.
Highly advanced written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be influential and persuasive at a senior level and at times within a highly contentious political environment, with a demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Ability to multi-task and deliver projects on time and to budget.
Flexibility and willingness to travel within NSW at short notice with a valid NSW C class driver’s licence (regular short stay regional and rural work is a requirement of the role).
Advanced level competency with computer applications and technology (Microsoft) with strong analytical skills.
