The Manager, Research Grants will provide leadership to a team of officers and co-ordinators dedicated to the delivery of high-quality enabling customer services to the University in the pre-award space for NHMRC and MRFF grant applications. The incumbent will work closely with colleagues from Faculties and Institutes, Contract Administration Team and across the Research Portfolio.
The Manager, Grants is responsible for solving complex issues associated with successful grant applications and negotiating mutually agreeable solutions with funding bodies, partner organisations and researchers. The Manager is also responsible for the management processes associated with the life cycle of grants and fellowships, including coordinating the activities of the team reporting to this position.
As a Manager, Research Grants, you will:
Oversee the submission of competitive funding applications to funding bodies ensuring eligibility and compliance of applications to university policy and sponsoring body funding rule including the provision of high level grantsmanship advice on the content of applications to ensure the preparation of high calibre grant applications in order to contribute to the improvement of the University’s application success rate.
Understand environmental trends and integrate this knowledge in to maintaining a very high level of expertise in at least one major Australian competitive funding source and its schemes (NHMRC-MRFF) and co-ordinate services to and liaison with the relevant funding body on behalf of the University.
Provide leadership by supporting, training, and mentoring and developing the skills and expertise of the pre-award team members and by contributing to the knowledge of the office and division as a whole.
Empower people and role model overseeing the recording and updating of pertinent information on the University’s research database and document management systems to ensure high levels of data integrity and accuracy of research income and research grant information.
Develop and implement processes to minimise the University’s exposure to risk by managing and overseeing all operational aspects of grants.
To be successful, you’ll have:
An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Proven experience driving forward initiatives with stakeholders to achieve operational and strategic outcomes.
Experience providing high level and complex advice and services to senior Managers through the establishment of meaningful relationships.
A high-level knowledge and understanding of the Australian research environment and a solid understanding of the international research context.
Experience interpreting funding rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures and providing high level advice to clients.
Experience in the use of research databases and a high level of competence in standard office computing applications including document management systems.
