Manager - Wholesale Energy Markets

Lead Wholesale Energy trading team, develop strategies, execute trades, manage risk, and optimise portfolio performance.

As the Manager of Wholesale Energy Markets, you will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic direction and operational excellence of Wholesale Energy trading activities. Reporting directly to the Head of Wholesale Markets, you will lead a team of skilled professionals and collaborate cross-functionally to optimise trading outcomes, manage risk, and capitalise on market opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:

Market Analysis and Strategy Development:

• Conduct in-depth analysis of Energy Markets, including supply-demand dynamics, regulatory developments, and competitor activities.
• Develop and refine trading strategies aligned with market trends, risk appetite, and business objectives.
• Identify opportunities for growth across energy commodities, including electricity, natural gas, and renewables.

Trading Execution and Risk Management:

• Execute trades in Wholesale Energy Markets, ensuring timely and cost-effective transactions.
• Monitor and manage market positions, exposure, and counterparty risk to optimise portfolio performance.
• Implement hedging strategies to mitigate price volatility and protect against adverse market movements.

Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management:

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including energy market participants, regulators, and industry associations.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including Finance, Operations, and Legal, to ensure alignment and support for trading activities.
• Represent the company in industry forums and negotiations, advocating for its interests and contributing to market development initiatives.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team of traders and analysts, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Set clear performance expectations and objectives, and monitor progress towards goals.
• Facilitate training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and ensure readiness for evolving market dynamics.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Proven experience in Wholesale Energy Markets, with a focus on trading, risk management, and strategy development.
• Strong understanding of energy market fundamentals, including market structures, pricing mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated track record of success in trading commodities, with a preference for experience in electricity and natural gas markets.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed trading decisions.
• Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Understanding of financial instruments and derivatives used in energy trading, such as futures, options, and swaps.
• Familiarity with trading systems and platforms, including experience with market analysis tools and risk management software.
