Looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to start in a workshop ASAP start. Mon-Fri.

Your new company
Our client is a global machine manufacturer and integrated solution provider specialising in underground coal mining. They export high-performance longwall mining equipment worldwide. Their product range includes roof supports, power distribution centres, and advanced electrical engineering systems for mining and tunnelling. Our client has a vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer to commence ASAP.

Your new role

• Follow health, safety, environment, and quality protocols, including relevant laws and client standards.
• Ensure work aligns with Safety and Health Management, Environmental Management, and Quality Systems.
• Promptly report hazards, incidents, and near misses involving yourself or others.
• Adhere to design, drafting, and engineering policies and procedures.
• Inspect and measure machinery and parts.
• Create technical drafts and designs to improve fabrication and quality.
• Identify design opportunities for efficient labour and component performance.
• Participate in risk assessments and occasionally lead them.
• Prepare engineering reports, calculations, and finite element analyses.
• Communicate with clients to understand and confirm requirements.
• Coordinate with teams, suppliers, and subcontractors for design and manufacturing.
• Contribute to new idea development and product drafts.
• Collaborate with project managers and customers for design clarity.
• Assist in engineering improvements to equipment.
• Contribute to tendering processes for accurate estimates.
• Maintain Job Register and master schedule updates.

What you'll need to succeed

• Degree/Tertiary qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Three years post graduate heavy mechanical engineering experience, preferably within the mining industry.
• High level computer aptitude including CAD 2D drawing / 3D modelling / FEA / Engineering Calculations.
• Understanding of underground coal mining systems and operations with particular emphasis on longwall systems.
