Job description

Shape Your World
At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper, world-shaper.
This is your opportunity to help shape the future of sustainability with world-changing innovations and low-carbon technologies. Become a valued part of the team that’s reinventing the aluminium industry for a sustainable future, revolutionising the way the world lives, builds, moves and flies.
About the Role:
This unique permanent opportunity as a Graduate Mining Engineer at Alcoa, empowers you to shape your career in an exciting three-year customised graduate program allowing you to contribute to a more sustainable world. During the program you will rotate across our WA bauxite mine sites based in the Peel and Upper Southwest regions. These site-based roles allow you to easily fit the graduate program into your lifestyle whilst allowing you to learn and grow, and develop hands-on experience and expertise in:

  • Project planning, mining engineering and industrial engineering for the WA Mining operations.
  • Conducting project work that provides information, analysis and recommendations to mining management.
  • Assessing future and present operational needs and opportunities whilst providing required reports and recommendations to site and relevant stakeholders.
  • Mining operational exposure across our Huntly and Willowdale Bauxite Mines and Global Planning team to gain a solid understanding of the site operational and technical functions of our business.
  • Meeting the requirements of the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations to attain a Quarry Managers certificate of competency.
Working alongside seasoned professionals throughout the program, you will be provided with coaching, mentoring, hands-on and professional training to accelerate your development and maximise your full potential. The best part is that your experience will be diverse; from working in our corporate offices as part of our Global Asset Management team, to a local on-site environment within our 2 mine sites, 3 powerhouses and 2 alumina refineries.
You will be provided with an increasing level of responsibility to use your innovative thinking, your motivation to learn and passion for growth to shape the future of our business. You will be in an open-minded workplace where your ideas will be valued in a supportive environment encouraging you to think outside the box.
If you are on the path to graduate by the end of 2024 or have recently completed tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering or a related discipline, we want to hear from you!
What’s on offer:
  • Career development opportunities to pursue your passion
  • Take part in monthly ‘Graduate Days’ and team building activities.
  • Monthly Leisure Day
  • Benefits allowance
  • Performance related bonus (variable)
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave scheme
  • Paid annual volunteer hours
  • Social and diversity focused engagement opportunities
What you can bring to the role:
To play a part in our ongoing success, we are seeking someone who:
  • Is a self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Uses initiative and takes ownership of their work.
  • Has strong communication and well-developed people skills.
  • Thinks analytically and is open minded with a creative and collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Drives positive outcomes with the ability to engage with and understand customers.
