What you'll be doing
The Multicultural Health Officer position contributes to the Multicultural Health Service and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s response to promoting equitable access to health services for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people with a focus on addressing identified health inequities through prevention and early intervention programs.
This position also works with health service providers to ensure the health system is responsive to the needs of CALD and refugee communities and individuals through workforce development, training and projects that address inequities in health service access and promote quality improvement.
To ensure the provision of evidence based health education programs and messages consistent with NSW Health and ISLHD policies, procedures, standards, relevant legislation, and the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
The Multicultural Health Officer position requires a relevant tertiary qualification in Health Promotion, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Health, Behavioural or Social Science with relevant experience in the delivery of health education and/or community development. Employment screening including a National Criminal Record and Working with Children check will be required.
Although this position will work across cultural groups and sectors, this position will require the ability to utilise effective language skills to communicate in spoken Arabic and English languages.
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Selection Criteria * Relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in Health Promotion, Education, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work or other relevant health or behavioural science.
- Demonstrated superior skills and experience in group work, community development and the provision of health education programs.
- Demonstrated experience in Multicultural Health from a community or service development context.
- A proven ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs in a health related field and with an array of consumer, community groups and service providers.
- Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, across related services, and to develop and sustain strategic partnerships in the region.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing with consumers, community groups and various levels of management. Written and spoken proficiency in English and Modern Standard Arabic languages.
- Ability to undertake flexible working hours, evenings and weekends as required by the role.
- Current NSW Drivers Licence, with the ability to travel in accordance with position responsibilities.
