About the role
Grampians Health Ballarat has a vacancy for a permanent, full-time Nurse Unit Manager of the Surgical Ward. We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and quality focused Division 1 Registered Nurse to manage an Acute Surgical Ward. Our department currently consists of 22 beds.
Applicants for this exciting role will be able to demonstrate passion and enthusiasm to promote our service, be collaborative in their leadership while being able to effectively engage with all disciplines. Exemplary written and interpersonal skills along with computer literacy are important.
A sound knowledge of the fundamental machinations of running a surgical ward while using your leadership skills to cultivate and foster a culture that values the ability to learn, change, improve and adapt to new ideas and strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Participation in monitoring and managing department performance through monthly accountability meetings
- Participation in annual budget build
- Operates at appointed EFT and within agreed targets for leave liability and casual staff usage
- Ensures rosters are aligned with EFT budget, matched with the appropriate balance of staff skills and knowledge to ensure safe, high quality care is delivered
- 100% completion of relevant audit schedules ensuring there is an associated action plan and monitoring program in place to ensure improvement where needed.
Skills and experience
- Be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse Division 1 with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and hold a current practicing certificate
- Post graduate qualifications (or working towards same) in management or equivalent
- 2 years or more of leadership and people management experience

This position is paid in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020 - 2024. The classification is Nurse Unit Manager (NM10 – NM12) which ranges from $61.56 - $66.04 per hour.
All appointments are subject to a satisfactory police records check, immunisation clearance and Working with Children check and/or NDIS Worker Screening Check.
All employees must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required, which at a minimum is a surgical mask. Additional PPE requirements are role-dependent.
