Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Registered Paramedic/Occupational Health Nurse to ensure the health of employees and contractors through, the delivery of professional health and medical services. This position is based at our world-class Jundee Operations. This opportunity is offered 12 month fixed term contract on an 8/6 roster, FIFO from Perth.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Provide emergency and non-emergency assistance and medical care to the site.
- Assist in managing the sites processes in relation to medical emergency preparedness through the regular review and updating of emergency procedures and response systems.
- Provide relevant medical training and coaching to members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Participate in emergency response training, when appropriate, in order to understand the roles fulfilled during emergency response.
- Manage the emergency medical facilities and assets onsite to ensure a timely, coordinated, and professional response.
- Conduct regular training on the use of defibrillators and medical related issues to individuals.
- Assist with developing and maintaining an audit function to measure, report and recommend with regards to health and medical management and best practice.
- Assist the H&S Manager or nominated delegate to ensure that all health and medical reporting requirements meet corporate requirements and are completed and distributed in a timely manner.
- Assist the H&S Manager or nominated delegate with analysis and interpretation of health data.
- Promote and adhere to Northern Star methodologies, policies, procedures and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
- Assist with the interpretation of legislation, government standards and agreements. Provide input / informed commentary, improvement opportunities on areas of risk to management team as required.
- Assist the OHS Department with projects as directed, by ensuring project compliance and quality; while identifying improvement opportunities. This will include but not be limited to Occupational Health and hygiene, medical programs, and the administration of workers compensation claims.
- Ensure all administration functions and injury management data recording functions and tasks associated with the position are undertaken and completed in a timely and efficient manner, with consideration to document and information quality and content.
- Conduct regular biological monitoring of identified exposure groups in relation to lead, arsenic and mercury to comply with legislative requirements.
- Maintain relevant databases and inform relevant Stakeholders regarding abnormal biological and hygiene results.
Required skills and experience:
- Bachelor of Paramedical Science or accepted equivalent (such as 10+ years with a State Ambulance Service with appropriate "on road" prehospital and remote experience) OR
- Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent.
- Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Current qualification in Advanced Life Support (ALS).
- Demonstrated experience in first responder or emergency medical care.
- Current manual "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
- Familiarisation with RFDS protocols and medical evacuation procedures.
- Intimate knowledge of Injury Management / Return to Work processes and practices.
Desired Experience & Competencies
- Provision of rural and/or remote medical services.
- 3 years' experience working in a similar environment (Mining industry).
- Sound clinical reasoning and diagnostics skills.
- Experience in Workers Compensation and Injury Management.
- Demonstrated experience and/or qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or Hygiene.
- Exposure to emergency response situations in mining.
- Knowledge and understanding of INX systems.
- Training & Assessing certification.
