The Company:
Lindsay Transport is the largest transporter of fresh produce in Australia and specialises in temperature sensitive, time-slotted freight into Central Markets and major Grocery Distribution Centres. We operate a network of freight terminals with significant cold room facilities across Australia, employing more than 1,800 staff.
The Opportunity:
The Operations Manager is integral to the organisation's successful day to day objectives. The position primarily oversees safe and compliant operational activity within the branch across day and night shifts.
Critical to the role is ensuring company policies and statutory/legal regulations are met and successfully meeting customer requirements. Positive collaboration with the NTO's operational and administrative staff is also necessary for success to ensure the network operates seamlessly.
What the role entails:
- Day to day management and supervision of operational staff
- Oversee the loading of dry and cold store such as produce and general freight
- Ensure freight bills are raised in line with customer requirements
- Ensure all NTO and PUD deliveries take place in a timely manner and where applicable in accordance with designated time slots
- Responsibility for the retrieval and imaging of all proof of Delivery (POD) documentation.
- Maximise efficiency of fleet within the depot
- Meet and where possible exceed customer expectations of pickups and deliveries
- Communicated with or arrange the communication with customers to communicate any issues or delays
- Work with other depots to ensure the smooth running of freight movements across sites
- Develop and monitor procedures for successful operations in the depot
- Monitor and report on various KPIs
- Ensure stock is stored in line with HAACP and compliance requirements
- Report any issues to the site/depot manager on a daily basis
- Manage and enforce operational conformance in accordance with the organisations operation policies and procedures
- Manage and monitor drivers and their management of driving hours
- Responsible for ensuring that all drivers complete and submit all required paperwork correctly
- Manage container movements
- Review Work Diary Page errors (discuss errors with drivers)
- Liaise with Driver Trainers regarding any additional training needs for drivers
- Develop and communicate a work roster at least 7-14 days in advance for all PUD and Linehaul Drivers and manage floor staff rosters
- Responsibility to ensure all trips (Both PUD and Linehaul) are recorded accurately in Truck Mate by Operations Supervisors and Allocators
- Responsibility to manage the efficient housekeeping of PUD and Linehaul Freight Bills (Consignments) by Operations Allocators
- Responsibility to manage all aspects of the Sentinel use (Fitness for Duty, Pre-Trip Checklist, Electronic Work Diary)
- Responsibility to ensure the effective management of Smart jobs via the In Cab Devices
About you:
To succeed in this role, we anticipate you will be able to demonstrate:
- Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within refrigerated or general freight
- Familiarity of Chain of Responsibility (COR) laws
- The ability to direct staff and multitask effectively
