Globe 24-7 in partnership with their client, a Global Tier 1 miner who is currently recruiting for an Operations Manager. Reporting into the General Manager this position is responsible for designing and managing strategies and systems to optimise mining operations covering the full life of mine, to enable the business to meet its long and short term objectives.
Key accountabilities:
- Manage both OP & UG Mining, Process, Maintenance, Technical Services at a very large operation
- Deputise for the General Manager when not on site.
- Plan the future direction and overall business strategy.
- Establish and roll out the overall mining strategy
- Prepare and manage budgets
- Ensure the ongoing operation and proving-up of mineral reserves.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in line with business strategy
- Establish, develop and maintain an effective, efficient and motivated workforce
- Establish and maintain an effective communication system within the organisation to achieve safe and healthy working conditions,
- Achieve agreed environmental targets, legal compliance and incident prevention. Lead and promote the development of a culture of workforce environmental care and respect.
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in mining activities.
- Proactively engage with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people.
- Develop objectives for sharing common infrastructure and support services across the company and cascade this throughout department.
- Be visible in the workplace.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in metalliferous mining operations, open pit and underground production, including several years in leadership roles.
- Experience in mining environments in developing countries
- Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
- Experience in managing costs and budgeting
- Demonstrated application of continuous improvement
- Ideally a mining / engineering background
Language: English (verbal and written at an advanced level).
