WAPU is seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee their operations division, this is a pivotal role providing strategic industrial advice to the CEO, leading negotiations, ensuring member welfare and engaging with Branch Officials and Members across Western Australia, as needed.

The WA Police Union of Workers(WAPU) represents the professional and industrial interests of nearly 7,000 police officers, police recruits, cadets and police auxiliary officers employed by the WA Police Force. Covering the portfolios of; Legal, Industrial Relations, WHS, Welfare, Media, Internal Advocacy, Research, Administration and Member Services, WAPU plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring the well-being of its constituents. WAPU is registered with the WA Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) and affiliated with the Police Federation of Australia (PFA).
About the Role
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Direct day-to-day management of Field Officers, Industrial Officers and the Legal Services Division
- Provide strategic industrial advice and lead industrial negotiations
- Ensure provision of welfare support, counselling and legal assistance to members
- Oversee applications for legal/financial assistance and manage external legal counsel
- Plan, develop and execute industrial agreement negotiations
- Develop and enforce business standards, protocols and best practices in people management
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with WA’s WHS laws
About You
Essential:
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, such as WHS, criminal and civil law
- Strong communication, stakeholder and relationship management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence
- Project and change management experience
- Understanding of policies, rules and regulations
- Sound understanding of Australian employment / industrial relations legislation and practices
Desirable:
- Experience in emergency services or policing functions, mediation and negotiation
- Quasi-legal knowledge, particularly in legal proceedings and case preparation
