The Company:Our Client, NSW Farmers is a member based advocacy body representing the interests of farmers across NSW. As a grassroots organisation they are a significant voice for of farmers with a primary purpose to listen, engage, provide value, and act on their behalf to drive and deliver meaningful outcomes that directly benefit farmers. They are fiercely independent and champion the rights of farmers to external organisations including the Government.
NSW Farmers is seeking to appoint the Policy Director for their socio economics portfolio, overseeing a diverse portfolio of issues facing farming. In this role you will listen to industry and then develop key policy recommendations that directly benefit members/farmers and further assist their interests.
The Role:
In advancing issues for the farming community, you will research, analyse, and develop policy and advocacy strategies while at all times engaged with and listen to members to ensure policy development progresses farmer issues. Your ability to listen, interrupt, engage, and interpret are vital skills.
You will be ultimately accountable for clear and complete policy solutions on behalf of members.
Specifically you will:
- listen to and work closely with stakeholders
- ensure all policy and advocacy initiatives align with the overall strategic plan
- work with farmers, listen and gather intelligence to best interpret and represent the members
- provide policy advice to Management, external stakeholders, and government
- prioritise policy development to maximise impact for farmers
- lead a small but enthusiastic policy team
By nature you will be inquisitive, willing, and wanting to engage with multiple stakeholders and be consistently looking at new ways of doing things. Engagement, listening first, policy next.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- exceptional stakeholder and consultation experience at many levels
- a proven background in policy generation, advocacy and strategic planning
- an understanding of agriculture and agribusiness
- be an exceptional lister and influencer and able to set clear priorities
- exceptional project management skills with proven systems skills to manage the workflow
- relevant tertiary qualifications (Business, Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics)
