The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).The DNA File Review Project team has been established for the purpose of responding to the recommendations from the Queensland Government's Commission of Inquiry into Forensic DNA Testing in Queensland, as they relate to the work of the ODPP.About your opportunity:
The Practice Manager is responsible for coordinating the project resources to achieve the objectives, as well as providing high level reporting to the ODPP Executive, and performing legal review work associated with the review of historical criminal cases, considered closed, in accordance with the recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry into Forensic DNA Testing in Queensland.The successful candidate will be a team leader who demonstrates:
- Strong legal expertise, experience in and knowledge of criminal law, and an ability to apply legal advice as a litigation solicitor.
- Knowledge of the concept of DNA testing and analysis, in the context of prosecuting criminal cases in the superior courts.
- Effective stakeholder engagement and communication to communicate effectively across a broad range of stakeholders, both internally and externally to the ODPP.
- Effective leadership and ability to supervise a team of legal professionals and administrative support staff.
- Knowledge, respect for and an applied understanding of legal and professional ethics and integrity, diversity inclusion, cultural capability and trauma informed approaches.
