An exciting opportunity to join the Finance team at the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works. As the Principal Management Accountant, you will be responsible for providing high level professional and strategic advice on financial performance, budget management and funding to responsible Directorates, the Executive Director Finance, the Chief Finance Officer, and other internal stakeholders. This role requires significant collaboration within the department and central agencies.
What you will be doing
· Undertaking the timely production of accurate internal budget management reports and other ad hoc reports, and undertaking analysis of budgetary and financial performance.
· Planning and co-ordinating the preparation of the monthly budget management report for submission to departmental governance committees.
· Performing complex analysis across a range of operational and capital cost types, and interrogating variances and forecasts.
· Maintaining oversight of cost centre structures supporting reporting, corporate allocations and related charging mechanisms, and providing complex management accounting advice and services to departmental organisational units.
· Collating, preparing and validating documents, presentations, returns, open data reports and government portal updates, executive briefs, estimates briefs, and correspondence as required on a range of budget, financial and other corporate issues.
· Undertaking projects to identify and implement systems, policies and processes to continually improve financial and budget management and associated reporting.
· Ensuring compliance with relevant Government legislation and departmental policies and procedures in relation to budget, financial, administrative and other corporate and operational issues.
· Developing, implementing and maintaining systems and associated reporting processes, including documentation of procedures.
· Developing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with external stakeholders, clients including senior management, and team members.
· Contributing to the cross team delivery of financial services within the department as required.
