An exciting 12-month opportunity is available for a Principal Policy Officer (AO8) in the Social Policy team at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet - fixed-term, flexible full-time position with possibility of extension.

At the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC), our primary responsibility is to provide support and guidance to the Premier and Cabinet to effectively deliver on the government's priorities, commitments, decisions, and objectives for the betterment of the community.
As part of a central agency, you will partner with our stakeholders across government to deliver high quality policy advice on significant matters to the Premier, Cabinet and Cabinet Committees, and contribute to innovative policy development and analysis.
Social Policy in The Cabinet Office plays a central role in advancing strategic policy and service delivery matters across a range of areas, including health, housing, disability services, child safety, youth justice, multicultural affairs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy.
Your opportunity:
DPC is looking for a temporary AO8 Principal Policy Officer for 12 months (with possible extension) to join the social services team within Social Policy.
It is anticipated that in the role, you will primarily work with the disability services department and intergovernmental colleagues to plan and deliver significant reforms arising from the recent national NDIS Review and disabilities Royal Commission, and other state disability services priorities.
This role may also contribute to work in the team's other portfolios, which include housing, child safety and communities. Experience in disabilities services is not a requirement of the role. There is potential for this recruitment process to lead to offers of employment in similar roles.
About you:
In this role, you will be part of the ‘engine room' of government and help drive strategic policy issues in the social services sector. We are looking for a proactive starter who can:
- rapidly identify and analyse complex policy issues and documents
- build relationships and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders across DPC, other agencies and other governments to develop policy options and solutions
- inform decision-making through concise and persuasive written material, from letters and briefing notes through to Cabinet submissions.
