Job description

Queensland Rail's purpose is to provide a customer-focused, safe, reliable, on-time, value for money rail service that benefits the community, supports industry and is integrated with the public transport system. The organisation's vision is connecting communities through a modern, world-class rail service.
We encourage a safe, innovative, and inclusive environment where you can deliver quality service while expanding your career and achieving your professional goals. If you thrive in an environment where motivation, teamwork, and forward thinking are paramount, then a career with Queensland Rail could be the right step for you!
About the role
The Principal Portfolio Analyst (AS7) is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity within the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) located in our Brisbane CBD office. The key function of the role is to provide specialised skills in portfolio analysis, dashboard reporting, and process improvements that will optimise the delivery of capital and infrastructure projects and support the whole-of-business strategic alignment.
As part of a small collaborative team, you will be responsible for delivering the portfolio reporting, engaging with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, while driving the EPMO's performance forum to ensure that all activities are focused towards achieving the desired portfolio outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive analysis and reporting on the portfolio, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Preparing investment portfolio, program and project reporting to present insights to relevant governance forums and key stakeholders.
  • Monitoring portfolio progress and performance, regularly updating stakeholders on the status of the broader portfolio achievements.
  • Understanding the critical role that a Portfolio Analyst plays in the successful delivery of projects, aligning strategic investments with objectives and benefits.
This is not your typical analytics and reporting role. Your success in this role will be determined by your ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders, conveying information from large data sets to executives and business stakeholders for decision-making purposes.
Why join our team?
  • Create your own legacy, leveraging your advanced knowledge of portfolio, program, and project management to innovate our reporting process.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels, such as Project Managers, Executive Leadership Team, and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
  • Be a part of a small team within a large asset company.
The best candidate for this role will have the following:
  • Advanced level of technical skill in the use of contemporary business intelligence tools and applications (e.g., SAP Hana, SQL, Tableau and PowerBI).
  • High level of skill in the application of analytical, conceptual and problem-solving techniques to understand and accurately interpret portfolio data to provide meaningful reports.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, demonstrating ability to present information to others who do not share the same level of technical knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of principles of portfolio, program, and project management.
  • High level of knowledge working in a Portfolio Management Office in a changing and complex organisation
Please see position description for a full list of responsibilities:
