NSW Telco Authority is working with government agencies, and other partners to design and build the next generation of critical and non-critical operational communications services for NSW Government agencies, to better enable them to service and protect NSW communities.
This includes the Critical Communications Enhancement Program (CCEP), with an investment of $320 million by NSW Government, across four years to build an enhanced government radio network, a key role in the development of a national Public Safety Mobile Broadband (PSMB) capability, and the Regional Digital Connectivity and NSW Mobile Black Spot program among
others.

About the Role
The NSW Telco Authority is looking for a Principal Transmission Engineer to join their team. This role will be responsible for designing and managing the development of telecommunications radio site infrastructure providing transmission and backhaul expertise.
Key accountabilities will include:
Lead the development, implementation, review, support and maintenance of backhaul strategy and guidelines to meet customer and broader government objectives. .
Manage the development of an Ethernet Microwave mobile backhaul network to support the delivery of current and future services
Manage the development of an end-to-end IP network which is secure, flexible and extensible to support the delivery of both current and future services..
Maintain and communicate network policy, standards and design guidelines, performance specifications, documentation and deployment techniques, monitor/review network projects to ensure compliance and integration and recommend/take corrective actions as required.
Develop and maintain professional networks, lead, engage, explore partnership opportunities and negotiate with business, industry and government representatives and other stakeholders in order to effectively represent the government's interests and optimise outcomes.
Identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities and provide timely, relevant, authoritative information and advice to the Chief Technology Officer, Network Architect, and others as required, to facilitate informed decision making.
Identifying, understanding and managing risks including adhering to appropriate policies, rules and regulations.
About you
To be successful in this role you will be degree qualified in telecommunications, electronic or similar engineering. You are an experienced engineer with strong experience in Transmission Engineering.
Essential technical requirements:
Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience, plus relevant industry/specialist experience.
Advanced knowledge and experience with Ethernet Microwave planning, design and architecture.
Advanced understanding and experience in various networking technologies and architecture principles such as Ethernet, Metro Ethernet, Routing Protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP), MPLS-TE, MPLS VPNs (Layer 2 and Layer 3)
Experience with Microwave Designing tools for mobile backhaul planning such as Path Loss and/or Mentum Ellipse will be considered and advantage.
Hands on Experience with Microwave deployment and troubleshooting it will be considered and advantage
Experience with WAN technologies such as SDH, Ethernet over SDH, DWDM
Familiarity with Ethernet Operations, Administration, and Maintenance technologies such as CFM, ITU-T Y.1731, etc.
Experience in P25, Public Safety, Push To Talk (PTT) or Mission Critical systems is highly desirable.
Any knowledge and experience in one or more of the following would be favourable: LTE, 5G, LANES, fixed wireless broadband, IoT
In depth understanding of end-to-end requirements for delivery of telecommunications sites and services, including SAED processes, ACMA and EME compliance, configuration, installation, commissioning and integration of telecommunications equipment is highly desirable.
Please note - Travel will be occasionally required to various radio sites throughout NSW – typically no more than 5% of time. A current drivers license will be highly regarded.
