Job description

Our Company

Motium is a unique designer and advanced manufacturer of rugged technology and accessories for the harshest environments out there, providing to our global customer base a range of standard and custom products – think tough and technical computers, LCD monitors, IIoT, and more.

With 22 years’ experience in the game, our tech is developed from the ground up and is proudly made TUFFer down under in Western Australia!

Motium is on a serious growth trajectory, and we are looking to find highly capable, reliable, and zesty team members to join us on our journey. If you’re enthusiastic, keen to learn, love snacks, and looking to achieve more than you ever thought possible, Team Motium offers the potential for you to help create something you can be an important part of.

About the Role

As a Production Line Leader - Cables, you will be an important part of our Production Team, conducting necessary process in the assembly of various cables (i.e., stripping, crimping, potting, heat shrinking, labelling) and making sure the cables are manufactured to a standard that meets our customers’ requirements. This requires knowledge and understanding cable assembly drawings for correct pinning and making sure the right cables and connectors are used. You may be required to complete other production tasks where necessary.

In addition, you will also be responsible for the training of new Electronics Assemblers, in-process, and final products quality control, coordinating with Production Manager, Quality, and Warehouse on work orders and issues, as well as making recommendations on process improvements.

Our Production Team is a diverse team of 19 (20 when you get here!) hardworking individuals who take a work-hard, snack-hard approach to their tasks. Always giving 100%, they are the driving force behind Motium’s production of excellence.

Reporting to Scott, our experienced Operations Manager, you will be in a full-time role with flexible working hours based at our office in Bentley. Due to the nature of the role, you will be 100% based at our facility in Bentley.

The experience you bring to the role will be invaluable, but we don’t expect you to know everything! We will provide in-house and external training opportunities where required to ensure you are equipped to succeed with us.

Your day-to-day will revolve around the following:

  • Regularly checking of assigned teams’ work areas to ensure no health and safety hazards are present. Raise any concerns with the Production Manager
  • Conducting training with new and current staff related on assembly process and testing
  • Assisting in facilitating Expectation Reviews (ERs) for the team you are responsible for
  • Assisting Cables Designer in building new cable prototypes for customers
  • Making recommendations on process improvements
  • Studying and analysing assembly flows, test procedures and work instructions to recommend and implement improvements with the Production Manager or Manufacturing Engineer
  • Checking and validating work instructions as released. Maintaining all issued documents to Production (such as cable drawings, work instructions, engineering instructions) ensuring up to date versions are in use by the Production team
  • Assembling cables including stripping, crimping, potting, heat shrinking, and labelling
  • Conducting in-process and final product quality control checks
  • Conducting testing thru the Products Test Jigs or Cable tester to ensure products meet the required specifications. Supports the troubleshooting or repair of failed products or parts as required

About You

Here are some of the things we think will make you likely to succeed in this role:

  • Relevant experience assembling complex electric cable systems and accessories in a manufacturing environment (desirable)
  • Proven experience working for a medium to high volume manufacturer in an Assembler, Quality Assurance, or Engineering Technician capacity (desirable)
  • Outstanding attention to detail and a commitment to producing the very best quality output
  • Ability to follow formal procedures and work instructions
  • Demonstrated commitment and a positive attitude toward quality
  • Brilliant problem-solving skills with the ability to provide solutions
  • Being a self-motivated individual who can achieve and succeed under minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Team Player – with an ability to interact at all levels
  • Completed a technical qualification (Electronics, Electrical or similar)

We’d love to see that you have technical skills or experience working in a manufacturing environment. However, this is absolutely not a deal breaker! Our team believes that if you have the right attitude and a learning mindset, we can give you the right tools and in-house training to succeed. And, we’re sorry, but you do need to have permanent rights to work in Australia.

We understand that not everyone is confident when applying for roles. If you are feeling unsure about any of the details, please don’t hesitate to email us at **@motium.com, and we will be in touch with you as soon as we can.

Here are 4 reasons why we think you will love working with us:

  • Culture of friendliness and inclusivity: We truly care about our people and our work, embracing the diversity of our workforce and ensuring everyone has a sense of belonging.
  • Flexibility of your working hours: Tell us what working hours would best suit you, and we will work our hardest to see if we could accommodate what you need.
  • Receive recognition for your wins: Our favourite pastime is to celebrate the success of our employees and recognise their contribution to our company. We want you to take pride in your accomplishments, and if you’re doing a fabulous job, we want to make sure you know!
  • Chances for growth and progression: As Motium continues to grow in every facet, you will grow with us. There will be plenty of ways for you to achieve your career goals and targets, whether that be in this role or another department. Hear that? That’s the sound of opportunity calling your name.

Here are 4 reasons we are afraid you might not want to join us:

  • We operate in a high-feedback environment. You will be required to challenge, be challenged and face challenges. We recognise that this approach is not for everyone.
  • Motium is growing. Fast. As such, not all our policies and procedures are shiny and well-polished. We are a work-in-progress and catching up as quick as we can.
  • We manufacture thousands of products every year. Our Production Team do outstanding work making sure that every product is as high quality as the last. This requires a high level of attention to detail and an enjoyment of repetitive tasks – we know that this routine work isn’t loved by all.
  • We design and create various types of cables based on the customers’ requirements and specifications. This work also requires a very high level of attention to detail and problem solving. You will be required to think creatively or outside the box to provide solutions to problems encountered - we know this is not loved by all.

Want to join us?

To apply, please provide your resume and a cover letter highlighting what you specifically can bring to this role.

Unsure what to include in your cover letter? Don’t stress! Let us know what your top 3 skills or accomplishments are and why you think you have met your match in us.
