You will be joining the Workplace Learning team which has a long and proud record of assisting young people transition to further education, training and employment. 

The role - Program Coordinator, Virtual Reality Career Programs

You will be arranging and delivering inspiring Virtual Reality (VR) Career Learning Experiences for high school students.

Reports to:  Program Manager
Location: Albion Park, New South Wales
Award: Labour Market Assistance Industry Award 2020 Classification: Employment Services Officer Grade 2
Remuneration: $37.80 per hour plus 11.0% Superannuation
Contract: 28 to 35 hours per week (negotiable).

The position is available from 6 May 2024.

 There may be an opportunity to work additional hours, as agreed, during periods of higher levels of business activity.

POSITION PURPOSE

The primary function of this role is to organise and deliver VR Career Events. 

This involves working in a team-based environment in an educational setting as you set up, manage and facilitate engaging Virtual Reality (VR) career experiences for high school students. 

In addition, the role requires staff to build trust and engagement with the students, ask them questions, share information and support them in their career journey.

KEY FUNCTIONS

- Organise, present and facilitate VR career sessions and experiences for groups of up to 25 students in a knowledgeable and engaging manner.

- Share knowledge of each of the VR career experiences and explain to the students how VR works.

- Lead and facilitate group discussion.

- Set up the events space at each high school.

- Liaising with high school administration staff, teachers and career advisers.

- Operate and maintain VR headsets (Oculus Quest 2), including but not limited to opening, closing, and swapping applications for students, and troubleshooting if/when necessary.

- Other key tasks include liaising with the Workplace Learning team to set up the venues and ensure ongoing maintenance of activity consumables within budget, as well as providing general IT support to the delivery staff at the time of content delivery.

- Working with the team to assist with the overall logistical objectives of the VR events.

ABOUT YOU 

The position requires an energetic and knowledgeable person who is comfortable with technology and enjoys a challenge. 

You do not need to be a tech person as such, however having some level of interest in VR and tech skills is beneficial. 

You will be a confident presenter who enjoys leading an event and working with a team to deliver an engaging experience.

To be successful in the role you will be a well organised person, who uses their initiative and common sense when things don’t go to plan. 

You will be available and comfortable with undertaking travel within the service region and beyond to deliver VR career programs.

Being able to trouble shoot technical and non-technical problems is crucial. You will be someone who enjoys thinking and working on their feet.

 KEY SKILLS

  • Communication: Good verbal, non-verbal, listening and written communication skills together with the ability to persuade and negotiate with school staff and others who we engage with to deliver VR programs.
  • Presentation Skills: Capability to delivery engaging presentations.
  • Work independently and in a Team: Self driven to achieve required services and achieve outcomes. Contribute to the team meeting its goals and performance standards and provide back up and support to other team members to ensure peak workload demands are met. Proven ability to develop networks and the ability to liaise effectively between stakeholders in education, industry and community organisations. 
  • Planning & Organising: Good attention to detail, together with the ability to manage work flows several months in advance. Ability to work with minimal supervision to set priorities, manage caseload and meet deadlines to achieve targets/KPIs in a timely manner.
  • IT Skills: Ability to competently use the VR technology and Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Problem Solving: Negotiating and rescheduling placements as required and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise, involving teachers, employers, parents and students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, CAPABILITIES, CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

  1. IT & Presentation Skills
  2. Cert 3 in Business Services or Cert 4 in Career Development or an IT qualification.
  3. Working with Children Check clearance under the Child Protection Working with Children Act 2012 (refer to https://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au)
  4. Current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness and availability during normal business hours.
  5. Australian Federal Police check.

ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Illawarra Schools Workplace Learning Program Incorporated (WL) offers young people a variety of programs and support to assist them make a successful transition from school to work and / or further education and training.  
WL delivers a range of services in the Illawarra, Southern Highlands, Shoalhaven, South Coast and Far South Coast regions.

WL currently delivers four school to work transition programs.

Virtual Reality (VR) Career Experiences Program: This program provides students with an engaging VR experience which encourages them to consider new career ideas and pathways.

Work Placement: Students studying an industry based Vocational Education and Training (VET) course as part of their Higher School Certificate (HSC), spend a week in both Years 11 and 12 as voluntary workers in a relevant workplace, to develop industry specific skills related to that course.

Work placement is a mandatory HSC requirement for a range of courses including Automotive, Business Services, Construction, Electrotechnology, Entertainment, Hospitality, Information Technology, Primary Industries, Retail and Tourism & Events.  During work placement, employers supervise students as they participate in the workplace and practice and extend what they have learnt in their off-the-job training at school or at other RTOs, such as TAFE NSW (refer to https://www.workplacement.nsw.edu.au).

Get Back in the Game (GBIG) – This program delivers services to support young people, aged 15 to 19, disengaged from education and training. The daily delivery of the Get Back in the Game Program within the Illawarra, Southern Highlands & Shoalhaven Region will involve:

• Working with young people, aged 15 to 19 years, who have disengaged from education to support them to make effective transitions into employment

• To provide individual client case management, mentoring, and training & employment brokerage services to re-engage them in education and training and/or 

• Support their transition to sustainable employment.

Jobs Education Training Program (JET): Provides structured small group and one-on-one case management encompassing: career and transition to work planning; workplace readiness training, identification of students’ strengths and skills; identification of training and learning pathways available; facilitating workshops; and the development of a school to work transition plan.

In conjunction with these programs, WL also delivers a range of high-quality events, including:
