Purpose of the Function

Establish and manage a Multicultural Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Service (DFSV) catering for South Western Sydney for limited case work services and NSW for capacity building, service development, primary prevention and research/advocacy work. It advocates for and represents the needs of multicultural communities in NSW. It has a holistic culturally responsive approach towards families and particularly on the impact of DFSV on children.

About You

You will have strong leadership and mentoring skills, a proven ability to deliver, and demonstrated knowledge of domestic, Family and Sexual Violence issues, including the challenges facing victim survivors and the multicultural and DFSV sectors.

Reporting to the Head of Women, Equity & DFV, the Director – NSW Multicultural DFSV Service, will work collaboratively and support the executive. You will also be leading a team as well as project teams. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage a State-wide DFV service including staff and financial management
  • Lead state-wide advocacy for migrant and refugees subjected to DFV in collaboration with other units
  • Seed and manage other related projects within the remit of a DFV service
  • Ensure the growth of the service by engaging with funding opportunities
  • Collaborate with other units in SSI and contribute to the overall wellbeing of clients and staff related to DFV
  • Contribute to research, policy development and briefings as relevant
  • Ensure the wellbeing of the team, build a cohesive team spirit so that the team can respond with confidence and goodwill towards each other
  • Engage in campaigns such as 16 Days of Activism on Gender based violence and others
  • Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Social Sciences, in related areas or equivalent experience
  • Expertise and skills to work in the DFV sector, including exposure to case work, safety considerations and risk
  • Multicultural background or extensive experience with multicultural communities
  • Knowledge of the current policy environment around DFSV
  • Leadership skills for team work and collaboration
  • Analytical skills related to data, evidence gathering and research
  • Writing skills suitable for advocacy and submission writing
  • Experience Working with children in the context of violence is DESIRABLE
  • Exposure to issues around visas and migration facilitated abuse is DESIRABLE
