This role calls for an experienced Project Manager who will oversee critical defence vessel programs within Austal’s sustainment operations. Based in Cairns, you will collaborate closely with the ABF, Auspol or the Defence Sustainment Manager and ship managers to ensure projects meet all operational timelines and budgetary guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate multi-disciplinary team efforts to ensure on-time delivery of service support and maintenance for defence vessels.
  • Manage project scope and interdependencies within established change management processes to meet contractual outcomes.
  • Ensure material sourcing aligns with system and vessel support outcomes within set schedules.
  • Lead and develop diverse teams, maintaining high collaboration and effective communication in a dynamic environment.
  • Build and manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring all parties are well-informed about project statuses, issues, and changes.
What you need to bring:
  • Project Management Expertise: At least 5 years of demonstrable experience managing large and complex projects, preferably in the shipbuilding, defense, or similar industrial sectors.
  • Educational Background: A degree in engineering, naval architecture, or a related field is essential. Additional certifications in project management (such as PMP or PRINCE2) are highly valued.
  • Safety Certification: Possession of a Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card) is mandatory, ensuring compliance with national safety regulations.

Desired Experience:

  • Industry Specific Knowledge: Experience in naval or commercial Vessel Sustainment management is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with experience in performance-based contracting, particularly within the Commonwealth Department of Defence or similar commercial maritime sectors, will have a distinct advantage.
  • Change Management: Proficient in managing scope and interdependencies across projects with a strong grasp of formal change management processes.
  • Material Sourcing and Logistics: Ability to plan and execute material sourcing strategies that align with project schedules and contract performance goals.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Leadership: Proven capability to lead and inspire multi-disciplinary teams, driving high performance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Communication: Superior communication skills are crucial for effectively managing stakeholder relationships and ensuring transparency and clarity in all project communications.
  • Problem Solving and Adaptability: Must be adept at problem-solving and adapting to changing project needs and environments, maintaining focus on strategic objectives while managing day-to-day operational challenges.
  • Strategic Planning: Strong ability in strategic planning and execution, with a focus on delivering projects on time and within budget.
Benefits:
