Role Purpose

The Project Officer works as part of a team to thoughtfully design and execute practical, high-integrity and approvals compliant natural resource management and Nature-based Solutions carbon projects via native reforestation. By combining on-ground vegetation management/monitoring activities and data / GIS analysis, you will plan and coordinate project activities, including scheduling project materials, organising and supervising contractors and liaising with relevant local stakeholders.

Success in this role will see you…

  • Coordinating native restoration project activities including organising and tracking deliverables, monitor project costs, documenting project information, communicating status updates to stakeholders, plan and scheduling meetings on and off site.
  • Conducting field monitoring to quantify and characterise vegetation, and implement monitoring programs, and contribute to the broader team for vegetation (and ecosystem) identification, ensuring consistency and continuity of landscape assessment.
  • Engaging and liaising with landholders (commonly pastoral landowners and/or lessees).
  • Supporting other project activities as required, including reporting and project co-design.

Experience/Knowledge required

  • Hold a qualification in Certificate III Conservation and Land Management or higher/equivalent and have more than 2 years bush regeneration experience.
  • Experience in project coordination, natural resource management and/or in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ideally in rural or remote locations)
  • A proven track record in problem solving as well as developing and delivering practical solutions.
  • Possess or have the ability to gain working familiarity with associated regulations, Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) Act, and carbon farming / abatement methods see: Emissions Reduction Fund ACCU Scheme (cleanenergyregulator.gov.au)

Other Role Requirements

  • You will need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • A current driver’s licence, experience/training with 4WDs/UTVs, experience with remote area work and First Aid in Remote Situations certification is required.
  • Experience and certification in the storage, transport and application of chemical herbicides is required.
  • Ability to travel as required – regular away from home travel is likely to be required, including to remote locations.
  • A commitment to demonstrating and adhering to safety principles and practices at all times.
