The Department of Gastroenterology provides a specialist oesophageal atresia clinical service. The service is responsible for managing patients with oesophageal atresia who transition from the paediatric gastroenterology service at the Royal Children’s Hospital to the adult gastroenterology service at St Vincent’s Hospital, as well as patients with complex oesophageal and gastric disorders including Barrett’s oesophagus , oesophageal squamous dysplasia and premalignant lesions of the stomach and oesophagus.This role is a 0.2 EFT Project Officer position that is fixed term for 12 months with possibility of expansion and/or conversion to permanent EFT.The position involves the following key duties:1. Optimise the clinical Transition Service provided through the Oesophageal Atresia Review Clinic at St Vincent's to patients from the Royal Children’s Hospital, in particular by supporting:the transition process, including liaising with the Oesophageal Atresia nurses at the Royal Children’s Hospitalfacilitating bookings and appointmentsactively contacting patients who have not been reviewed to advise them of recommendation for review and regular endoscopydeveloping a computerised recall system and running this recall processwork with the Oesophageal Atresia nurses at the Royal Children’s Hospital to develop written and electronic information for patients2. Support data collection and research into oesophageal atresia as well as other disorders of the oesophagus and upper gastrointestinal tract, duties including:database developmentongoing data entry and collationdata analysis and research report writingadministrative governance of research conducted by the gastroenterology department concerning oesophageal disorders, including oesophageal atresia, Barrett’s oesophagus, squamous dysplasia of the oesophagus and other premalignant lesions of the upper gastrointestinal tract.The Project Officer will work with clinicians and the Research Governance Unit (Human Research and Ethics Committee, HREC), to ensure that research protocols conducted at St Vincent’s Hospital are compliant with all relevant guidelines and legislationClassifications for this position is Grade 1A - HS1A ($27.75 per hour).Your ContributionHigh school certificate (VCE equivalent)Confidence using information technology is integral to being able to perform the role with Microsoft ACCESS, EXCEL, WORD, SVHM (PAS and MRO), Adobe Acrobat (pdf), scanning, , fax all frequently used.Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be required. The Gastroenterology Department provides a comprehensive range of consultative and diagnostic procedures in Gastroenterology with particular interest in chronic viral hepatitis, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, therapeutic endoscopy and oesophageal disorders. Clinical treatment is delivered in the Gastroenterology Department, and also in the Inpatient Services Building.Working at St Vincent’s
