Your new role
To manage the urban and remote housing asset portfolio in the Barkly Region, including through condition assessment, repairs and maintenance, refurbishment, replacement or construction of new assets. To maintain compliance with relevant statutory regulations through delivering a high level of services to the portfolio, including performance of contracts, contractors and programs together with providing high level, culturally sensitive communication to key community, government and non-government organisations and stakeholders.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Manage individual contractor performance, ensuring compliance, scope and budget, whilst advising management on performance, timeliness and workmanship of contractors
- Ensure asset condition inspections are conducted and repairs are identified and recorded in departmental systems
- Ensure contractors are initiating necessary actions for immediate and urgent works identified during inspections, in the most cost effective manner to meet budgetary requirements
- Manage sub-regional asset maintenance budget to achieve full annual expenditure on strategically prioritised items, including authorisation of expenditure to the limit of financial delegations
- Ability to work with emergency teams in cases of natural disasters/critical incidents, occasionally afterhours
- Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development.
What you'll need to succeed
- A relevant qualification or relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related to the duties of the vacancy
- Comprehensive knowledge in contract administration, budget management, project management and procurement practices
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation, standards and codes associated with the construction, maintenance and management of residential properties
- Proficiency in computer software including spreadsheets, data bases and word processing, the ability to interpret/analyse data, produce high level technical reports and convey essential issues to technical and non-technical personal
- Solid written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
- The ability to provide services in a culturally sensitive manner and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, including experience working in remote Aboriginal communities
- A drivers licence, physical ability to drive 4x4 vehicles and willingness to travel, with overnight stays
What you'll get in return
This role is a T5 designation. Salary range is between $99,083 - $107,885 + superannuation, per annum.
