As part of the HBT Australia division, Waratah Engineering, located in Argenton NSW is a leading manufacturer of underground board and pillar / development mining equipment. We manufacture, overhaul and support custom-built equipment Including shuttle cars, feeder breakers and mobile bolters as well as offering bespoke remanufacturing services for continuous miners and other underground equipment.
About the role:
In the position of Quality Assurance Manager NSW, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality across all aspects of HBT’s products or services. Your primary responsibility will be to establish, implement, and oversee robust Quality Assurance processes to guarantee that our deliverables meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards.
You will provide guidance, support, and expertise to drive continuous improvement and maintain a culture of quality excellence.
The Quality Assurance Manager NSW role has key responsibilities including:
- Compliance: Plan and manage the Quality systems and initiatives to ensure maintenance and compliance of ISO9001, plan and manage certification activities according to AS 3800 and IECEx 80079 requirements and manage compulsory regulatory requirements according to local and global certifying bodies. Assist in the regulatory certification requirements ensuring supply of compliant equipment for use in NSW underground mines in conjunction with the certification engineers and supporting the global compliance manager.
- Establish Quality Standards: Contribute to the reputation of HBT by ensuring that all products and services provided to customers (either by HBT or a supplier) meet the required customer specifications and HBT standards. Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output.
- Implement Quality Assurance Processes and Policy: Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of discussion papers, briefs and submissions, to contribute to the development and delivery of policy initiatives on Quality Assurance. Provide guidance on the use of the HBT’s Document Management System and devise procedures to inspect and report Quality Assurance issues.
- Quality Audits and Reviews: Improve HBT NSW region’s processes through the effective resolution of issues (internally and externally) and by continuously improving the existing systems. Provide auditing, inspection, monitoring and performance management services on behalf of clients to ensure contractual compliance.
- Quality Financial Analysis: Minimise the cost of rework by ensuring the adherence to the company's Quality Management Systems and processes. Contribute to the overall profit of HBT by monitoring and where possible, minimise operational expenditure.
- Continuous Improvement: Ensure the development of competent workforce by effective and appropriate recruitment, training and development of employees to ensure that a quality product is provided.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with key internal and external stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings and stakeholder consultations, providing timely advice and information, along with negotiating and influencing strategies. Independently contribute to the integrity of systems and data for a variety of competing technical tasks on behalf of both internal and external clients.
- Risk Management: Minimise the potential risk to HBT NSW region, by implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient Quality Management System to the ISO 9001 requirements.

About you:
Qualifications / Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Quality Management / Systems
Be proficient in one of the following trades:
- Mechanical trade qualification
- Welding trade qualifications
- Electrical Trade qualifications
Desirable Criteria:
- Understanding of Quality systems, Engineering Mechanics, Metallurgy, Hydraulics, Weldment and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
- Experience with equipment in underground coal mines.
- Knowledge of hydraulics.
- Ability to fault find and diagnose problems.
- Strong logical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exposure to ISO and ICEx standards relating to Ex equipment and working with certifying bodies
